Can anyone explain The Eurovision Song Contest to me. What is it about, why does it exist?
The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual competition held among active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), in which participating countries each submit a song to be performed on live television. They then proceed to cast scores for the other countries' songs (10 scores altogether—ranging from 1 to 12 points), in order to find the most popular song in the competition. Each country participates via one of their national EBU-member television stations, whose task it is to select a singer and a song to go forward to represent the country in the international competition.
The Contest has been broadcast every year since its inauguration in 1956, and is one of the longest-running television programmes in the world. eurovision is each country showing that all of their music is the same- but with different language and dodgy costumes. and then voting for your own. if you can be bothered. england couldnt. they stayed in bed. good on them.
we have some great indie bands here in england, we should take advantage of it.

im from the UK and i hate the fact that our entrys are always pathetic. What the hell were they thinking with this years entry? I think we should be showing the rest of the world Some GOOD BRITISH TALENT not this cheesy pop crap. I wouldnt be surprised if it was another year with no points.

if i remember rightly, we had a contest to vote for the best entry for England, I didn't vote cos they were all rubbish, but the british public voted for Scooch to win and represent us for the eurovision.

But seriously, I believe it is rigged for UK NOT to win/not stand a chance of scoring reasonable points, hence why the most rubbish song gets picked - oh my, now how did that happen??! Imagine the cost of hosting that, even more so in the years leading up to hosting the Olympics in 2012. I don't think the Cultural Affairs budget will allow it !!

A truly worthless and pathetic spectacle lapped up only by insignificant Eastern European countries with inferiority complexes.
The best thing the UK can do is to stop funding it along with France and Spain. Then, when those silly little countries want to spend the evening voting for each other, they can do it using their own money!
