why does no-one vote for us? none of the music is 'great' but s brits never get a good result these days - why does everyone hate us? anyone know the real reason?
Arnie film finished and, thinking about the eurovision song contest don't know why?
It's all political now isn't it. Many countries don't like the UK anymore (or the US) because of political reasons. All the little Baltic countries vote for each other too. It's just a waste of time now really.
Reply:The last good entry from uk was Sandie Shaw puppet on a string. Since then everthing is absolute rubbish.
Reply:Because to be fair most of our recent efforts were rubbish! lol :-) But hopefully Bill Bailey will be our entry next year which would be absolutly fantastic!

Who do you think will win the eurovision song contest?
what do you think being from malta we always dont have any chances i don't know why ?
Who do you think will win the eurovision song contest?
hope malta wins the eurovision song contest.
Reply:Oh God, your question took me back like twenty years earlier when we used to watch it, I hope Malta wins
Reply:Of corz every European wants their own country to win.For example I support Turkey ;-)..But nowadays rock songs are popular in Eurovision so I can't guess a country as a winner.
Reply:You just need one person from Malta to put it on the map, that's all. Look what Bjork did for Iceland, and she's a complete freak.

Israel is part of Asia. Should it be allowed to participate in the EUROvision Song Contest?
The Jews always get special treatment. Why is that?

Should Scotland have there own entire in the eurovision song contest?
As it seems as if independence is on the cards, maybe it will happen. Let's face it, they couldn't do any worse than the usual UK entries.
Should Scotland have there own entire in the eurovision song contest?
Nope, we have been part of the UK since 1707 and until that union is broken we shall remain so.
Yes we enter as Scotland in the Commonwealth Games but that is completely different as each country in the commonwealth competes separately.
And why would you want to prolong the Eurovision song contest with any further acts?! It would be cruel!
Reply:I honestly don't see why not, : )
I think we represent our self in the Commonwealth Games : )
(Or will be doing so...)
*yay for the next event in Glasgow =P*
If Scotland gain's independance we might just be singing as Scotland in future anyway.
Either way i can't say i'm to bothered. ^_^
Reply:I believe they can according to Eurovision if they so wish. It's to do with TV channels and not who's part of what.
Reply:it wouldn't matter cuz they still wouldnt win... and no cuz scotland is part of the UK....
Reply:Entry my dear E N T R Y. No they should not, Not if they want to keep there credibility intact

Eurovision song contest - what do you do as you watch?
We make brief notes on what we do/don't like/anything different
Have food and drink for each countries song, German wine, french cheese etc
What sites are good to get prepared for this night in?
Eurovision song contest - what do you do as you watch?
what we usually do... we have to keep telling our younger brother to shut up, because he can't stop commenting on the songs, he can be a real baby sometimes!!! apart from that, we do nothing special, just watch the show and then decide which is the best song(s) at the end. we certainly do nothing the sort you do!
i'm just curious, what do you eat when there is malta's entry putting on the show? that's my country of origin..... this time the title may give you an idea about what you can consume, lol!!!! here is a link to the video of the song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wXVf3iBG...
the song is called vodka, and is sung by morena. pity vodka is not a maltese drink, but russian!
i guess you can try to google traditional food for each country...
hope this helped!

Should the united kingdom pull out of the eurovision song contest?
It's clearly become a divide between eastern europe and western europe and terry wogan has clearly said this.
The song contest is all about political neighbouring voting and not about decent songs winning anymore. The song contest has become a joke. These eastern european countries and non european countries like russia taking part have ruined the contest and made it tacky and un-enjoyable which is a shame.
There were so many better songs than Russia and I can't beleive russia won.
ITALY had already pulled out of the song contest one or two years ago due to the political voting and I think it's about time the united kingdom pulled out along with spain, germany and other western european particpants to make their point.
It's been over 8 years since a western european country won the contest.
Russia is not in the E.U anyway. They shouldn't be in it as well as some other countries.
Terry Wogan has expressed his doubt in hosting the contest next year too. What do you think?
Should the united kingdom pull out of the eurovision song contest?
I feel it should be left to the CONTESTANTS, since they know to expect this going into the competition.

The Eurovision Song contest...Should we enter any more?
After watching it last night I was appalled by the biased behaviour of the mainland european countries. Any country that happened to have a large amout of neighbours was getting more points then god knows what. While countries which tend not to have such a good diplomatic relationships with the E.U tend to get pushed to the back. I'm not complaining how england came last (it was a god awful song... if we won with that I would of been ashamed) but the sheer unfairness of voting. Itally quit the contest a few years ago, saying that there was no more reason to compete. They went on to say that as they were not eastern, Western Mainland or of Islamic authority it could nether win as these groups vote for each other. In my opinion one of the only political moves that I agree with the Italians. Do you think we should follow there lead or stick with the contest and see if we can get a little higher next year?
The Eurovision Song contest...Should we enter any more?
Its funny that so many Eastern Europeans still want to come to work in the UK though, even if they don't like us.
I think good old Terry has had enough of the expected political voting even if it is amusing.
Reply:Has anyone ever taken the Eurovision Song Contest seriously. There's been biased voting for decades, even before there was public voting.
i can't believe anyone ever took this event seriously or cares who wins.
Just enjoy the naff outfits and rotten songs, same as any other year.
It's just entertainment remember not world dominance.
And by the way I don't see anyone complaining on here about the fact that Britain was one of the very few countries which were guaranteed a place in the final and didn't have to compete in the semis (which , for example, the Russians had to do)..
Reply:We should use the money we spend for eurovision to fund other services the country needs. I think its a disgrace we pay money for this eurovision contest when our armed forces sometimes don't even have enough body armour !
One is a waste of the space and the other saves lives you do the math.
Votes are so biased its unreal other countries seam to have an inferiority complex compared to the UK and don't want to vote for us.
Reply:By we are you referring to the UK? I'm not from the UK, and i can say your song was just OK, but your argument does not hold because what your failing to mention is Poland , - a land locked, mainland eastern European country also came joint last, and Germany too.
Rather than quit I think they need to change the voting, have 50% to judges, 50% to public? Did you vote? If so for whom? I voted for France, thought the song genius, but then again .....what do I know.
Reply:but it proves us and russian relations improving .... song was written by Timbaland ... now that should be a straight ban in my books... did not see it as already know how rigged it is but if the performers are to amateurs why not the song writers ....UK can hold head high their guy was amateur AND wrote the song
Reply:no. the probability of united kingdom is next to nothing.
we have statistics and science to prove the patterns.
http://jasss.soc.surrey.ac.uk/9/2/1.html
Reply:but i LOVE eurovision!
it is rubbish tho...but what could we do? maybe something to do with the voting? like if all the votes go to some central thing and not just each country voting sperately?? it is so rubbish as it is all politics.
Reply:Quit while the going is good why torture yourselves. It doesn't matter how good your song is, unless you can move your country there's not a hope in hell of you ever winning again
Reply:Yes get out and stop the BBC funding it.But it saves the BBC
looking for programs to fill the slot.Just like it does when they
are covering sport.Dump the TV licence and E.S.C. is dumped.
Reply:The UK shouldn't of came last, Bosnia and Spain were the worst and they got almost 100 points, I don't think the UK should compete next year because it's either second last or last every year.
Reply:Why were you appalled?
It always happens.
We only still enter so we can laugh at the pathetic attempts at European entertainment.
Reply:Its pointless hosting it anymore, all the countries beside each other vote for one another, and not to say most of them are no good
Reply:no point its too political ,they all vote for their neighbours ,we should save ourselves the embaressment and not enter because we had a good act this year and we still lost .We're hated but why are we hated thats the question.
Reply:everyone who wins it now is from an eastern Europe country
its a dumb biased competition and we should just give up
Reply:I know what you mean. There is no way to stop the political voting so why bother.
Reply:No it is just an oportunity for Europe - who resent and hate us to stick two fingers up at us.
Reply:Its so political none of this countries will vote for us. They hate the British but they dont mind coming over to our country living of our state benefits sending their children to our schools and using our health service
Reply:No, just pull out
Reply:pull out its not that good anyway
Reply:no...
Reply:no, its votings not fair
Reply:i totally agree and i guess they should find other way to vote...
Reply:Firstly we shouldn't take this competition seriously, it's just a bit of fun that we can laugh at because lets face it, the whole competition is just a joke. The only reason the UK is in the competition every year is because we pay for most of it and that is why we never have to qualify. If any other country apart from Germany, Spain or France finish last, they would have to go through the qualifying stage first. If the UK, Germany, France and Spain pulled out of the eurovision, it would be finished because they wouldn't have the money to pay for it. Why do you think the two commentary boxes the presenters mentioned was France and the UK, oh and yes the only TV broadcaster they mentioned was the BBC (the main money source). The thing that makes me laugh is a lot of the other counties do take it very seriously. I work with two Latvians, two Russians and lots of polish and all they have been taking about all week, is the eurovision, it just makes me laugh.
Reply:The contest is a farce from beginning to end. Whist i do not share your view regarding the UK entry, i must admit that even Ireland joined in the game and voted for UK, same as all the eastern block countries did for all their neighbours. What baffles me is that most of those countries have literally shed blood to break off from each other, then along comes this poxy song contest and they gladly vote for each other! Italy did the right thing to not compete anymore, and all those countries that ended up at the bottom, should follow Italy's example. The money spent to promote songs could then be spent on more worthwhile causes.
Reply:I have watched it nearly every year of my life (I'm 41) and it was always for the laugh. I always remembered it as being the competition that gave us the Israeli transexual, Diggi Loo Diggi Lay and Boom Bang a Bang. Every so often a really nice song won and you knew when you watched it that the really nice song might win or the typical euro dance, catchy chorus one might win.
These days it's ALL about politics and it's ruined pure and simple. The UK is one of the biggest sponsors of the event so that should stop for a start. Why should our European counterparts promote their politics at the expense of our Television License?
It should stop. Leave them to it. It was never much of a competition for the best song but it was good for pure entertainment value, but it's a joke now and we should have no part of it. Andy Abraham is a brilliant singer and his song was average yes but it deserved more marks than that.
Kind of thinking Ireland had the right idea with the turkey in a trolley act. Sums the whole thing up really.

Eurovision Song Contest unifying Europe?
What should we do after all of eastern europe became part of the eurovision?
These new participants have a very different taste than the western part of europe. For me, a lot of it was very bad taste. (Im sorry) And all of a suddain they are the majority on the show. Its almost as if we in the countries that started this tradition.. Spain, France, Ireland, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, UK and others alike arent really a part of it anymore..
Its impossible to win with an intelligent contribution from now on. (Example: Sebastien Tellier 47p?!!!!!) It feels as if the contest have been couped. We dont understand them. They dont understand us. And now we are a minority in "our own" competition. This only seems to make the differenses clearer.
The way it is now, I dont feel is very unifying for a new Europe. How did it become like this? Is there a better solution? What should we do?
Eurovision Song Contest unifying Europe?
It is no longer a song contest. It is an oppertunity for some to make political statements. It mind sound like sour grapes to say "You are cheating so we are not playing anymore" but I think the time has come to say it. The Italians left this contest a few years ago and I think we (the UK) should join them.
Reply:the eurovision is a joke!!!!its just going to be similar to the lisbon treaty when that comes in.
im irish, i know we were bad and didnt make it, but because the england and ireland are 2 countries off away from eastern europe we have no boddies only each other.
Before all these close eastern countires joined in it was fair voteing.
I think we should both leave until a fair judging system is emplaced. mayb a board of judges from asian and the states lol!
ps. andy was great.
Reply:all it is now is the eastern bloc countries voting for each other! its only a singing competition it doesn't matter wether u vote for your neighbouring country or not! its not like they'd cut off ur power supply just because they didn't win eurovision! i think the only good thing about it now is terry wogan's commentary

The true competition has gone and it's time it was SCRAPPED, if you don't know, each Country has to contribute to it and what do we get in return 'WE HATE BRITAIN'
Yeah thanks for nothing

I agree with you about Sébastien Tellier - that was a good song. But I'm kind of glad because it now can make it big without being tainted with Eurovision. His stage performance had a good message I think - what with the Jesus look and coming on stage in a Golf Cart - kind of sending a message about rich/poor divide.

The whole thing is far too political, and it's voting neighbour to neighbour country now, and not for the music value.
People used to have fun Euro Parties, at home and bet on the winner, all this has gone, I think we (UK) should 'pull out', mercifully Ireland escaped the humiliation this year..unlike us, even though we did put in a fantastic effort and song.

The Eurovision Song Contest......?
Who agrees with me, it isn't so much a song contest these days, but just a show of political correctness? Greece gives Cyprus 12 points, and vise-versa, Norway gives Sweden 12 points and vise-versa - etc - the songs have nothing to do with it - the Baltic states 'keep it in the family' too - And nobody likes the UK hence the nil-points but then oh thanks Ireland for the 7 points!!!!
The Eurovision Song Contest......?
yep we should take the money we put in to the crap contest and leave. and spend the 32 million on propper programming. t
Reply:The U.K. is the most politically correct nation in the world. If it's a P.C. contest, we should have won it hands down.
Then again, our entry was rubbish.
Reply:I agree, it sucks now, I think it's time it was scrapped.
Reply:what we need is a singing troupe made up of all the eastern Europeans that have immigrated to the UK include four British people from each of the four corners then we might just stand a chance?

Yeh i mean cypus just woke everyone up with their 12 points to greece.
All my friends still think we have a chance each year but its totally ob u have to be best friends with the country or be next door lol!
I was a little suprised about malta's 12 points.... are there a lot of english there? I was a little disopointed about cyprus also coz there are a lot of english living their!
Reply:At least people can see what countries support each other, if it is pure support. Sometimes the songs' quality matters.

Reply:It was a load of rubbish, but fun to watch. Didn't agree with the winner, thought Finland or Lithuania should have won. Didn't expect ours to do so badly, it was the usual Euro rubbish, terrible song. Bet Justin, Brian and Big Bros are glad they didn't have to do it. Don't know how we can change it, its too political. If we do pay 32 million I think we have been sort changed. Maybe if we should pay the same as the other countries and who cares if we don't get through the first round. Other than that all the phone calls should be added together rather than individually.

No
Who thinks that the Eurovision song contest is all about Politics?
No it's not!
It is all about music!
Reply:not actually, although there is a lot of neighbouring voting it's not enough to make Someone a winner, all votes from each country are needed.for example votes from eastern Europe are not enough to offer the victory. In addition last year Finland was the winner with 292 points but this year it finished 17th with only 53 pts. This makes it crystal clear that if Europe likes the song will vote for it and neighbouring voting can't do anything, only help for a top 10 place but definitely can't determine the winner.

Eurovision song contest?
Are there any Eurovision fans out there I absolutley love the show I'm so sad.
Has anybody got a favourite yet, I like Russia's and Greece. Irelands was a load of Rubbish I would of expected more from then, they are usually the class of the show but its no wonder they didn't get through to the final with the song they performed last night, oh well let this be a lesson to them for next year
Eurovision song contest?
I liked Greece's and Russia's songs as well as Armenia's. I must admit that I found Azerbaijan's song interesting as a concept and with nice sound. Overall I agree with those who passed to the finals. And yes I expected more from Ireland, a country with a tradition in good music.
Reply:Last night - Greece, Armenia and Russia stood up to expectation - I would think one of these countries won the SF. Azerbaijan (qualified) and San marino (did not qualify) were the new countries -let me say - they were AWESOME!!!
I think other good songs: Norway, Israel, Romania, Moldova (didnt qualify), Finland %26amp; Poland
Belgium wasn't a great vocal so I am not suprised it didn't qualify.

Reply:I never watched the semi-finals. I'll definitely watch the Final though. Even though it's obvious that NO ONE will be better than Ukraine last year. =]

Is the Eurovision song contest shown live on US television?
The Eurovision Song Contest isn't licensed for US broadcast (no American channel, including BBC America, has the rights).
You can see it if you have something like DISH Network or an international channel, specifically a European one.
You can watch the show live from anywhere in the world on eurovision.tv if you download the Octoshape plug-in, though.

Eurovision song contest. round 2?
A few days ago I asked if anyone had seen the U.K. entry for the song contest, and what was our chance of getting a decent score?
So lets go one stage further before the contest next week,
You have your ten points, give the score to which country you think will score high, then predict the score you think scooch will get for the U.K.
Next week we can see how everyone did
Eurovision song contest. round 2?
huh? get a job!
Reply:Who cares? Ireland will win anyway, and Grande Bretagne will get nil points - and rightly so!
To be honest, the priests on 'Father Ted' could had done a better song with 'My Lovely Horse'!
Reply:Latvia 127, Scooch 11.
Reply:its all about vote for your neighbour. A.SS kissing Europeans make me sick.
Reply:My sister who lives in Malta will vote for UK of course, but I'm so sorry can't vote for Malta (strange song - weird singer)
Reply:Are you a German? by any chance as they seem to be only country that still takes that C*** seriously nowadays about time this show was laid to rest it is such a waste of viewing time !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Will they be rugby songs? Then the Brits will win
Reply:I have heard the Eurovision UK song. Its a load of first class crap!!. Ide say "Come back Daz Sampson all is forgiven " But his song was even worse. I think when it comes to music the UK is just pants.
Not sure what country would take the crown...
Reply:10 pts for Cyprus, scooch I don't know,I wouldn't include it in my top 10 but neither in the bottom ones.I don't think UK will do bad although the comments from their rehearsals in Helsinki are very negative, I found the song as something very different from what we are used to see in eurovision and different and strange things have success. they Will make the stage seem as an airplane and they Will have the UK flag as background(very bad choice especially for those that don;t like British) anws good luck U.K,it's about time to weak up and try to score a top 10 place as many years ago. remember you have 5 victories and the record of 2nd places.

Is anyone looking forward to the Eurovision song contest tomorrow?
I just wish they were also showing this weeks' episode of Doctor Who, instead of postponing it to next week.
Thank you
Is anyone looking forward to the Eurovision song contest tomorrow?
Pathetically....yes! I think we stand a good chance of winning this year, because all the other countries' entrants look and sound rubbish. I am also sad about not having Doctor Who, the could have put it on before the contest and got rid of something else.

Do you think Serbia deserved to win the Eurovision song Contest, or is the voting just political?
It seemed all the Eastern European Countries were voting for each other and leaving the Western countries out.
Do you think Serbia deserved to win the Eurovision song Contest, or is the voting just political?
I didn't watch it last night - but I suspect a lot of the voting is political.
Reply:Thought Russia were robbed, I'm not a fan o eurovision, but my friends were visiting and wanted to watch it, I was surprised some of the songs were quite good. Thought Russia had it in the bag, so no I don't think Serbia should of won.
Eurovision has always been about the politics though, so its never going to be a fair competition.
Reply:It's ALWAYS been political! The winning song was crap!
Reply:Nobody can say, that the voting isn't political. But I think, this "politic votes" don't affect the top 10, except 2-3 countries. If the political votes were so important, then same country would win every year. I think, the best songs are in top 5. These countries were placed there not only with the political votes. But actually this is just a competition. Don't take it so serious.
Reply:they were good.
I agree with you on the last part of your question, and it's fixed if you ask me.
Reply:Voting should be done with the judges completely unaware of the scoring stats...If they didn't know who gave them points/or didn't give them points, then it wouldn't influence the voting...Once the singing is over, and the votes are counted (in each country), they should be put through so that they cannot "alter" their choice - as I'm sure this must happen - you scratch my back, etc etc...
Imagine all those living here in Britain - bet they didn't phone vote for us - but will see them in the dole queue nonetheless!!
Reply:I don't think Serbia deserved to win at all. When the show was on, I thought that it was one of the dullest worst songs in the whole contest. I don't know if others would agree with me in saying this, but yes it IS political voting and no one prob wants to vote for us because of the war in iraq, BUT even tho we were mainly snubbed by eastern european countries, a lot of them all decided to sing in ENGLISH! That's just totally ironic I think! Our language is used but they don't want to vote for us because of political reasons. Don't matter if no one agrees with that statement, just my opinion.
Reply:i did`nt watch it,,
Reply:I am not from eastern Europe, or even Europe, and I think the Serbian entry was really a great entry. It's true there wwere other great entries, but someone has to be THE winner and Serbia was really good.
Reply:Serbia was at least better than Ukraine...and it was not another clone of eurovision...why should all participants have long legs and be blonde and sexy?
Reply:I don't think Serbia's song was the best, but at least she could sing in tune, which is more than can be said for many of the entries.
It does seem odd that all these Balkan/Baltic/Russian states fought bitterly for independence, and now they're all voting for each other!
Reply:yeah it's all to do with politics and neighbouring countries and all that. Ireland, France and the UK were in the bottom 4!! And i actually thought France had a decent entry! I didn't think Serbia was fantastic like, it was alright..... i was really surprised Denmark and Isreal didn't even get through to the final though - that was ridiculous!! they were excellent eurovision songs, esp Denmark's entry, I really thought that would go far in the final!!
*ahem* may i also add that we Irish were NOT happy that we got NO points from the UK!!!!
we're not voting 4 ye next year!!!
Reply:Personally I thought most of the entries were totally unmemorable. For me the best song was from Latvia, even though I didn't understand it! It is a showcase for the rest of a hugely expanded Europe. Not sure it even qualifies for the title, contest, anymore. But it was an amusing evening with friends, we all chose our favourites and none of us chose Scootch!

Eurovision song contest...why does everyone hate england???
Everyone keeps saying the eurovision is completely political but I don't really understand
Why do no countrys not like us??
I thought denmark was the best...but we were definatly better than some of the entrys...spain!! omg lol
I wish everyone would just vote on which song they like best maybe it should be anon although it would be hard to keep it secret whos who lol

One word: Iraq.
Also, due to our geography, we don't really have many neighbours.
Reply:Because they do. I think we should pull out rather than embarrassing ourselves every year

i really like watching the eurovison song contest and even though most of the entries are rubish, the countries only vote for there naibours, does any1 else think it is really anoying?
The eurovision song contest anoys me? what about u?
I only watch it to laugh! It's not a song contest; it's a show-some-skin contest.
The song which won this year was ok, though.
I hate it that they vote neighbouring nations. I'm Greek and I feel embarrassed every year to hear the Cyprus's points.
"And 12 points to Greece of course!"
I hate it

contest....don't make me laugh!!
Isn't it time that this dinasour of a programme is put down??
The bias due to country's voting for each other has totally ruined the contest!!!
We have Andy Abraham finishing joint bottom...This is a guy who on several occasions has sold out the Royal Albert Hall.
And filled other venues.!!
The other acts on eurovision this year could'nt fill a telephone box!!!!
Your thoughts???
The eurovision song contest?
Ric flair to sing God save the queen.
Reply:I agree and disagree. I don't think Andy Abraham deserved bottom place, but I still don't think he had the right song or 'personality' to win Eurovision. I think the voting system is crazy and as Terry Wogan put it - we need ot seriously think about whether we want to enter, in fact most of Western Europe (who are the largest financial contributors towards the competetion) should think about whether they want to enter again. That (in my opinon) is down to the voting system, not necessarily the songs in the contest.
On a more positive note there were some good songs, this year. The competition helps raise the profile of cities and nations in Europe - therefore in that respect it is good.
The solution? Whoever is in charge of how voting is cast needs to re-vamp the whole process and assure competitors that this process will truly work, like it used to on the best song rather than 'our favorite neighbour'.
Reply:Even if Robbie Williams had sung ANGELS for us we would have had same result it is political voting at it's worst.
I think we should pull out after all we put a lot of money into it so what would the poor countries do if we did pull out who would fund it properly???
Let Scotland and Wales enter it as well.
Andy did not really like the song but give him credit he sang fantastic on Saturday night he gave it real welly best singer best song and equal third in bottom discuting!!!!
I would have rather Latvia won than Russia with cheesey pirate song lol HI HO lol
Reply:I agree totally!!! I have met Andy...I know his family very well,Last year he sang at a family wedding and was absolutely fantastic, very genuine guy, not being biast but he is a brilliant singer and his performance was also brilliant on sat....the best UK had in a long time.
I don't think he will loose his confidence as it wasn't his fault, he did his best for UK.....no matter who could have sung for UK I don't think it mattered to the voting system.
So Andy keep going, you are a gr8 singer, good luck for the future.
Reply:It's ludicrous. Andy was obviously the best vocalist on there, you don't have to understand the language to tell when an act is killing a note.
I don't think it will be axed because of all the countries that take part, but I think we should pull out of it. What's the point of entering year after year and putting all that time and money into it when we know full well we don't stand a chance? If Andy wasn't going to win it for us, or at least get a good shot at it, who can? He's the best we've had for years.
Reply:it is time for the BBC to pull out. Our licence fee shouldn't be paying for this event anymore. Also, let's give up our automatic place in the final. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose a few votes each year becasue of that, so let's contest on the same level as he other countries. Then, when we don't get through the semis we don't need to bother with the whole thing. It can slip away onto some obscure digital channel, never to be seen again.
Reply:Totally agree Andy was too good for the show anyway ,the programmes become a joke now , we should pull out and let the others just get on with it .Its not a singing contest anymore ,i feel bad for Andy but he is a successful singer and don't think the eurovision fiasco will affect his career ,hopefully in time he'll be able to laugh about it like we all do
Reply:i totally agree!!!! look at iceland ALWAYS they vote for countries like finland and sweden and switzerland!!!!
its so easy to guess what countries are gonna vote for each other lol
andy bless him i hope this doesn't crush his confidence he's really talented =].x.
Reply:Anyone thought that maybe, just maybe, countires vote for their neighbours because their taste in "music" is culturally alike? Anyway thats just a maybe...can't thi8nk I heard much "music" on the bits I heard anyway.
Reply:i totaly agree!
its not about the songs anymore- its about politics.
it used to be fun, back in the days when the voting was fair.
Reply:The last time this competition produced anything of note was when Abba won time to kill the thing.
Reply:It isn't about the music anymore.
Reply:it has got political ,so it is about time the whole thing was ditched
Reply:Yes it has! My thoughts exacltly.

Do you think the Eurovision song contest is fixed?
Every year the same countries give the same ammount of points to there neighbouring countries and this pattern is getting clearer and clearer. What do you think should change with the voting.
Do you think the Eurovision song contest is fixed?
Eurovision voting is not fair at all... Behind the votes it is only political reasons... I think nobody votes according to the song... It is all about neighbouring countries...
I had known some results before i heard yesterday
example Cyprus always gives 12 to Greece...
Reply:we should seperate between east and west europe (just in the eurovision song contest case )
Im not a racist, but it seems like a Soviet intern show every year :(
oh no, I mean rather the ex soviets should get her own show...but maybe that wouldnt fix all problems :( the other few cheaper are still in the resly europe :(
Reply:Russia won cause the KGB stepped in.

What do you think about Eurovision song contest 2008 in Belgrad and the winner Russia?
Rubbish. Like Terry said, the only reason all those eastern countries voted for Russia is to keep the gas and oil coming through.
It's got nothing to do with the song anymore, it's all to do with politics.
What do you think about Eurovision song contest 2008 in Belgrad and the winner Russia?
I heard that Timbaland produced the Russian entry. I knew they would win from the start.
Eurovison used to bring us together. But now, it simply shows the huge differences between us. It's way too political now. :(
Reply:Emily is right its RIDICULOUS and its completley fixed i liked france because it was catchy its even played on radio 1. Russsia did ice skating i mean whats all that about it had nothing to do with the song!!

I want to put my band forward for next year's Eurovision Song Contest. How do I apply?
I tried emailing the BBC last year, but got no reply.
I want to put my band forward for next year's Eurovision Song Contest. How do I apply?
Judging by recent years (2001 onwards), most of the people put forward are down-on-their luck actors turned singers or rejects from Pop Idol or Fame Academy. Most nominees are put forward to the BBC (as our represntative of the European Broadcasting Union) either by established songwriters who choose the artist they want to sing their song, or by record companies. If you're not on the books of a major record company or talent agency and aren't well known to the public then you haven't really got a snowballs chance in hell.
You need your fifteen minutes of fame and to get noticed on TV by the right people. Get in your application for Fame Academy, Pop Idol or the X-Factor now and you might stand a chance for 2010.

How come the Eurovision Song Contest Survived, but Jeux sans Frontiers didn't. It hardly seems fair.?
with all the insane accident laws and risk assessments needed today no one would dare to make Jeux sans Frontiers in case some one fell over, hurt a toe, and sued them for everything! Ah what a fun show it used to be!

What do you think about Eurovision song contest 2008 and the winner Russia?
Im happy with the results =)
We should rename eurovision song contest the eastern european song contest because the west will never win!?
Not saying uk should have won, the song was rubbish! Even if we had the best song we still would not win, you just know what countries are going to vote for what countries now!
We should rename eurovision song contest the eastern european song contest because the west will never win!?
I'm probably going to get a record number of thumbs down for saying this, but I really don't think the UK is in a position to criticise other countries for sticking to their own when we in general are so biased against foreign musicians. How many Eastern European artists (no matter how good) ever make it into the British charts? And then there was the shameful, racist decision to exclude non-Western acts from performing at the main event at Live8. For too long we have arrogantly and colonially assumed that only people like us from English-speaking Western countries can possibly be good musicians, so i don't see why we should take it so hard when others give us a taste of our own medicine.
No, I don't think Russia would have won on merit alone, but nor is it just a case of people blindly voting for their neighbours. The Russian guy was apparently a big star in the former Eastern bloc with an established fan base across the former Soviet bloc. If we too had entered someone who was well-known outside the UK with a pre-existing fan base in Europe, we'd probably have got a lot of votes, no matter how good or bad the song.
And I don't think political voting completely explains why Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia keep voting for each other. A few years ago they were trying to kill each other, so if anything you'd expect them to give each other nul points. They do, however, have similar languages and musical traditions, which would explain why they have similar tastes in music.
Personally, I'd have voted for Israel, but other than that, I thought the Eastern Europeans genuinely had the best acts last night.
Reply:The Eurovision Song Contest was invented for the UK by the UK and it will always be that way.
The idea is not to see which of the foreign johnnies can sing the best song (they are all awful), but to give us one night a year when it is politically correct to laugh at foreigners.
Why do you think Terry Wogan is paid so much?
Reply:Your very true
I just think Eastern Europe are more passionate about it and feel that they've got more to gain so they vote and support their countries more...we on the other hand try to stay awake throughout it..so its not that the western european countries have bad songs its just the eastern european are so supportive they'll obviously vote more!
Reply:That is a good Idea.
It has just been the Eastern Countries that won it for the last few Years.Everybody can see what is going on there.

Do you think Britain should stop competing in the Eurovision Song Contest?
It's becoming a farce with eastern european countries voting each other, and britain can only relay on the Rep of Ireland for votes. The british acts awful every year why don't we just give up,and save us the embarrassment of coming last year after year.
Do you think Britain should stop competing in the Eurovision Song Contest?
I don't think we should stop competing, that's just being a bad loser. What I do think though is that we should have better judges with more common sense. Whoever put Scooch through was a maniac - that song really gets on my nerves...

Do you think Andy Abraham was the best choice for the Eurovision Song Contest?
I thought Michelle Gayle had the best song but Andy Abraham was quite good as well.
It doesn't make any difference anyway really, I suppose, we will probably do bad again this year as countries only give their neighbouring countries points.
Do you think Andy Abraham was the best choice for the Eurovision Song Contest?
I think it's quite a good song, sung by someone who can actually sing in tune.
Michelle Gayle's song had dodgy lyrics - bit embarrassing all round I thought.
We won't win though, we don't have enough friends in Europe these days.
Anyone else think the winning song sounded like Sydney Youngblood's "If Only I Could"?
Reply:i agree with you, Michelle Gayle in my opinion would have been the better choice. it was more of the cheesy euro-vision song we all want and love.
he was good and i will still support him but Gayle would have been the better choice. i still have that song in my head

Reply:thank you for that I was taping it to watch after I had watched law and order don't need to bother now i take it!!!!!
Michelle Gayle did have more of the usual euovision feel about it i think.

Reply:i think andys was sooo much better and he can actually sing. Michelle's was good and more of a eurovision song but definatley andy!!!
Reply:people will vote for him cos of pop idol - not a eurovision song
Reply:No Way!! Michelles song was so much more Eurovish!!
I love the Eurovision but its too political, nobody seems to look at the songs just what that country has done to them or has done for them
It doesn't make any difference anyway really, I suppose, we will probably do bad again this year as countries only give their neighbouring countries points.
Reply:i like it
Reply:thank you for that I was taping it to watch after I had watched law and order don't need to bother now i take it!!!!!
Michelle Gayle did have more of the usual euovision feel about it i think.
Reply:i don't andy should of been the best choice surely theres other bands..........Any way whats the rules of the contest it would be better if we could get normal bands on it and not embaris our selves
Reply:Michelle Gayle was aWfUl. Out of all of them, Andy was the best. :)
Reply:Well, it couldn't be any worse than Ireland's choice which is a singing turkey!

Did anyone else fall asleep during the Eurovision Song Contest?
awww... you mean.... you fell asleep therefore you did not vote for it.... This is the reason the Greek song was third instead of first??? I think you are responsible for this national drama!!!
heheheeee
btw. I was out having fun, did not really watch (or vote!) too!! :)

What do you think about the Eurovision Song Contest 2007....?
Who do you think will win ?
What do you think about the Eurovision Song Contest 2007....?
Well, there's one thing that we can sure of instantly. It won't be the UK! The reason for this? Well, we're not considered pro European enough plus as one of the automatic qualifiers we send Europe any old rubbish really. If we wanted to win, we'd send a song with traditional British elements (morris dancing, bagpipes and a Welsh male voice choir) and put it to a disco beat. My guess (without hearing any of the other countries) would be one of the new ones. So let's say Serbia.

Eurovision Song Contest: Why does UK automatically qualify when the others have the semis etc?
We put up lots of money for it apparently, so we are always guaranteed a place in the finals.
It doesn't guarantee us points though!

Eurovision Song Contest: Why does UK automatically qualify when the others have the semis etc?
Thats funny as my sister said the exact same thing last night :L
Yeah, apparently they do,just not for junior eurovision which is confusing :S
Britain are not alone if this is true, the host country also do,but perhaps you'd have to search on the eurovision site
But to be honest,It doesnt matter because the United Kingdom is a favourite in eurovision as it is always due to politics etc.
We could bring back Elvis Presley in british form and he could represent us and we still wouldnt win :@
xXx
Good luck :)

Reply:It's connected with how much money we donate to the running of the competition I think. It's not just the U.K., there are others who automatically qualify. It's the U.K.'s way of ensuring that Terry Wogan gets at least one night out per year. Bring on the Bailey's!
Reply:Because the UK is the main funder
They qualify automatically every year along with other major contributors.
Reply:I dont know i was wondering that too, after seeing the listings on tv last night? Cause Ireland ended up out! Honestly though, andy Abraham does not stand a chance
Reply:It's something to do with money and potential viewers, ie; large population.
Reply:I heard someone say the other day that it helps to stop the block voting.
Reply:Because we co-finance it, along with France, Spain, Germany and the hosting country.
Reply:It doesn't always!

Isn't it about time we stopped entering the eurovision song contest?
it is now beyond a joke, even terry wogan sounded fed up i know our song wasn't brilliant , but for heavens sake spain and albania didn't deserve more. i think ireland definately had the right idea. what do you think?
Isn't it about time we stopped entering the eurovision song contest?
Hiya Jennie. I am Irish and I was ashamed of our entry although I do agree with you. Terry wants to resign and by Irelands entry, we have resigned too. It is such a waste of taxpayers money now and it is only a competion for the Balkan states. Lets give it a miss next year and find something more worthwhile to spend money on like reducing our shopping bills and gas/oil prices.
Reply:I think it's a farce now anyway.
Who gets to decide which countries go to the live show, and which don't? They chucked out Ireland, Belgium, Switzerland, amongst many others before the public even got to SEE their entry. Yet they let silly acts like Spain through. I don't think anyone can judge on behalf of Europe, other than the public themselves.
The eastern European countries all vote for each other, as do the Scandinavians. The UK being an island has nobody but the Irish to vote for them. I think we should divide the "United Kingdom" into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, to ensure WE can vote for each other, and win the contest! I know our entry was a bit crap this year, but this political voting has been going on for years, and it's stupid.
It's good for a laugh though.
Reply:yea. its ridicilous now. 14 points must have been best we've done in a long time.
But loads of the other acts were beyond a bloody joke!
Who actually likes those wierdos?!
waste of the singers time and waste of ours.
like the guy above me said all the countries vote for the country next to them. so all the Eastern europeans are gonna vote for each other and we're only gonna get Ireland to back us up.
Reply:Lol,i think we should still send terry though to make fun of all the other entries, and when it comes to our turn he can just put any old cliff richard song on the CD player,i mean let's face it we aint going to win anyway so why bother creating a new entrant! :-)
Reply:I disagree. At least it's one night out of 365 where I can have a good laugh at the other countries.
Anyway, if Wogan doesn't want to do it anymore he can always retire.
Reply:Eurovision song contest is so pointless. I think it would have a negative effect on the country if we won it,
Reply:There were LOTS of good songs but none of them got enough points. Well actually I wasn't hoping for anything else but still... I hate winner's song... So yeah it's about time we stop entering ESC.

As an Irishman I think that we were robbed.

I don't know but I love the band Apocalyptica!
Do you think we should know call the eurovision song contest the East European song contest?
and the West of Europe could have the 'Non politically voted Euro song of the Year Contest'? I know the British song was awful but the voting is getting to be a joke. And not a funny one at that! Some songs were actually decent but got hardly any votes. Opinions, everyone?

Do the singers during the Eurovision song contest sing live or Playback?
Live.
If it was playback, we wouldn't have heard so many offkey songs.

They sing live and you can hear it all too well sometimes. Unfortunately.
Reply:They have to sing live, about two years ago the UK walked away with nil points because their duo were out of tune.

Should the Eurovision song contest make an appeal for the safe return of the abducted child in Portugal?
No i don`t think they shoud, there is more than enough coverage for 1 missing child, what about the thousand of others that go missing every year, Your`e becoming obsessive along with a few others....
Should the Eurovision song contest make an appeal for the safe return of the abducted child in Portugal?

How rubbish is the eurovision song contest, do any of us enjoy it, should the UK stop bothering with it?
i mean its all complete trash, the songs anyway, it would be ok if they were decent. oh and then theres the voting , yeah whatever its so pathetic.
How rubbish is the eurovision song contest, do any of us enjoy it, should the UK stop bothering with it?
When we won with Sandie Shaw singing Puppet on a String, it was because it was a bright, catchy tune - one that you would go away humming to...At that time the Italians (and some others) would enter a good voiced baritone with a sombre ballad...nil pois!! Eurovision then was all about looking for a song which could be enjoyed by one and all (whichever country you came from). Waterloo by ABBA was well received because again it didn't matter what language it was sung in, everyone and anyone could hum along to the music.
Having said that, a ballad could and did cinch it when the tune was well written. Johnny Logan with What's Another Year. Vicky Leandros (Luxemburg) with Apres Toi, was completely different from Boom Bang a Bang, but the sound was just right.
Let's face it - how many of the last 5 years' winning entrant songs have ever been heard again? Was a time when you couldn't avoid hearing the winner on the radio, and more often than not it reached, if not No 1, then somewhere in the top ten.
Now it's like most have said - a political scratching each other's backs venue - with contestants trying to outdo each other with the most bizarre costumes and set designs! It is no longer the song...
Reply:i think we need to give up noone ever wins for the song anymore its all political and the same countries vote for each other every year no matter what.
Reply:I think we should stop entering crap like Scooch every year. It might have worked 26 years ago but it doesn't now.
Reply:I agree, it's complete rubbish, it's time it was scrapped.
Reply:the UK should definitly stop entering, look whats happened the last couple of years. No offense (im from the UK) but no-one actually likes us. The UK and Ireland should not enter next year unless they are actually going to find an act that might win. !!
Reply:It's total rubbish but the really annoying thing is that we put up most of the money for it.
If it weren't for our t.v licence money from the BBC going to fund it it wouldn't even be on and the other nations have the cheek to never vote for us.
The only good thing about that is that we'll always have a place. we don't have to go through the eliminating rounds!!
If it weren't for Terry Wogan I wouldn't watch it. He's great!!
I don't watch the whole programme, just the voting as it's hilarious as you know who most of the countries will vote for as it's all political, Norway always vote for Sweden and Finland, Cyprus always vote for Greece!!
Biggest laugh of the month.
Reply:i missed doctor how for that wtf
Reply:To tell you the honest truth , I only switched the Eurovision on at 10pm , just to see the voting , which is pure unadulterated politics and nothing to do with the talent shown. Terry Wogan was very funny with his 'caustic' humour - excellent!!. The contest is just a side-show. It's rapidly turning into the "Balcan Song Contest". These 'newly-freed' countries are only getting their own back after decades of percecution from the Big Bear of Russia. Of course the UK should keep going , if only for the laugh!!. The UK has always been in the sidelines in Europe , 'Island State' and all that.
Reply:It is a shame that the voting is spoiled by political and neighbouring votes. The UK did not have the second worst song (and I am not being biased) and neither was the Serbian entry the best, I wouldnt even have put it in the top 10. It should be based purely on the songs not some messed up bias voting.
Reply:That is the link of UK's song:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h01rzk35...
I liked their performance, song was just in Eurovision style. Watch and listen it one more time, may be you would find some positive moments in it in comparison with the rest of the songs.
Though for me it is only N 4.
Reply:Lots of reaction on Yahoo Answers about this! I think what we are seeing here is the rising authority of eastern bloc countries and their need to express themselves while carrying their allies. Britain is a nuisance in that ( although they all think this is the land of milk and honey ) and we are demoted for our actions in the middle east and being seen in support of the US. We will never get a good reaction for these very reasons, regardless of our musical prowess. Scooch were good last night, polished in performance and quite a snappy tune .... certainly not the best but worth more votes than the mockery offered by the others. We have two choices ... offer defiance and carry on or accept that this is a farce and simply pull the plug.
Reply:Well at least the UK vote fair unlike them Balkan countries, but yeah it is crap but the comedy value is great!
Reply:best part of it is Wogan's comments on the acts and that stupid blonde woman...sorry to respectable blonde women the world over

Bucks Fizz would never forgive us that treachary.
We must soldier on for Cliffs sake(he was robbed).
We must follow Lulu and SHOUT.....
That title is every british persons birthright!.
I think i need a lie down.
Reply:NO NO NO NO NO! i love the eurovision- a chance to invite your friends round and take the piss out of the 'talented' acts! i cant even bring myself to call them singers!
The UK almost got NO points lol everyone just hates us-its more of a politics thing rather than the actual songs now.
but come on, great entertainment, and terry wogans commentary is legend.
the winner though, wtf?????
Reply:It's always been like that, the truth is the UK will probably never win again because most of Europe hates us because of war and politics.
I don't think we should pull out, because we are still part of Europe - we would look like sore losers, and we wouldn't be able to watch the cheesiness on TV! :(
Reply:i am so glad that sumone else agrees i mean we only got 19 points they might as well not enter because its just embarrising and pointless also if our songs were decent we mite stand a chance but not with cheesy rubbish songs.
Reply:I agree. although i think it's a good idea that countries from all over Europe join together and sing. but I just don't like their music and i think the artists just don't influence people and we all know that any voting programme is fixed. I won't bother watching next year's eurovision as not many other viewers will tune in to watch it.
Reply:The only thing I enjoy about it is laughing at all the ridiculous songs, singers, dancers and outfits its more like a circus than anything else, also Terry Wogans comments are quite funny too.
Reply:NO, Western Europe should go for the tactic that Eastern Europeans do, and play them at their own game. But you get silly nations like France never voting the UK, Ireland giving the UK minimal points and silly nations like Italy not bothering to enter.
The UK should still participate but with better entries....
Scooch is abysmal but I like that Russel one.
Reply:I actually thought there were a few good songs this year - Latvia, Germany and Hungary all tried something a bit different and had singers who could - well - sing.
I agree the voting system needs looking at, but whatever they do, you can't deny that Scooch's effort was poor. It was dated and weak, and relied too heavily on gaining votes through mentioning a few cities in Europe.
Reply:I totally agree with Roxy the girl in the pink dress was so f****n annoyin who the hell was she?.
I think the votin is purely political and really unfair i know our song wasn't brilliant but it was better than some of em, can't understand why everyone hates us so much!
Reply:It is totally rubbish i think,it has been for years every year it just seems to get worse plus the winner is usually crap.
Reply:Ask yourself why The Beatles never took part in it...
It always has been rubbish musically. It was only ever worthwhile when it was fun!
Reply:I'm starting to think that only countries using the euro should be allowed to enter.
Oh look, that excludes the UK. What a pity...
We have some great music in the UK - but because Eurovision kills the career of most entrants, we don't seem to get them going for it...
Reply:Tell me about it - every year I watch it with my mum, but even she fell as sleep last night. And who on earth was that girl in the pink dress?? Could have strangled her!!
Reply:best part of it is Wogan's comments on the acts and that stupid blonde woman...sorry to respectable blonde women the world over
Reply:We shall NEVER surrender.
