We should rename eurovision song contest the eastern european song contest because the west will never win!?

Not saying uk should have won, the song was rubbish! Even if we had the best song we still would not win, you just know what countries are going to vote for what countries now!

I'm probably going to get a record number of thumbs down for saying this, but I really don't think the UK is in a position to criticise other countries for sticking to their own when we in general are so biased against foreign musicians. How many Eastern European artists (no matter how good) ever make it into the British charts? And then there was the shameful, racist decision to exclude non-Western acts from performing at the main event at Live8. For too long we have arrogantly and colonially assumed that only people like us from English-speaking Western countries can possibly be good musicians, so i don't see why we should take it so hard when others give us a taste of our own medicine.

No, I don't think Russia would have won on merit alone, but nor is it just a case of people blindly voting for their neighbours. The Russian guy was apparently a big star in the former Eastern bloc with an established fan base across the former Soviet bloc. If we too had entered someone who was well-known outside the UK with a pre-existing fan base in Europe, we'd probably have got a lot of votes, no matter how good or bad the song.

And I don't think political voting completely explains why Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia keep voting for each other. A few years ago they were trying to kill each other, so if anything you'd expect them to give each other nul points. They do, however, have similar languages and musical traditions, which would explain why they have similar tastes in music.

Personally, I'd have voted for Israel, but other than that, I thought the Eastern Europeans genuinely had the best acts last night.
Reply:The Eurovision Song Contest was invented for the UK by the UK and it will always be that way.

The idea is not to see which of the foreign johnnies can sing the best song (they are all awful), but to give us one night a year when it is politically correct to laugh at foreigners.

Why do you think Terry Wogan is paid so much?
Reply:Your very true

I just think Eastern Europe are more passionate about it and feel that they've got more to gain so they vote and support their countries more...we on the other hand try to stay awake throughout it..so its not that the western european countries have bad songs its just the eastern european are so supportive they'll obviously vote more!
Reply:That is a good Idea.

It has just been the Eastern Countries that won it for the last few Years.Everybody can see what is going on there.

Bring back the good Times when Johnny Logan,Bucks Fizz and

Nicole from Germany won it.

I wont watch it anymore, because Nobody can tell me that the Western Countries just have bad Entries.

The whole thing is a Fake these Days.

I am German, and I am very angry as well.
Reply:it seriously has become political. I don't think we'll ever see the award in the west again...and btw.. come on!!! Some of those countries are sooo far to the east that they really don't seem like they belong to Europe...

I think we should divide the competition in half so that there'll be some sort of fairness in it
Reply:i know!

there i was last night thinking andy really stood a chance...but then reality hit home when the same old political voting came on.

i mean, how could that wierd french song beat ours? or the chika chika nonsense! they were not even taking it seriously (like those knitting brides???wtf?????!) but everyone hates us now so we wont ever win again!
Reply:Take it for what it is: high camp rubbish that we don't take too seriously. If the Baltic and Balkan states want to keep it all to themselves, then let the babies have their rattle.
Reply:it shouldn't even be called a song contest, as the voting has nothing to do with the singing, its all about politics
Reply:The Eurovision song contest should be abolished, its about politics and not what its meant to be, get rid of it asp.
Reply:Western European countries have won 4 out of the last 10.

That seems a fair average to me.

.
Reply:Yeah you're right
Reply:Its Political that's why i don't wast my time watching it
Reply:We really should.
