Eurovision song contest '08?

I cannot believe the European countries!

They dont care that we had a good song and Andy Abrahams was good you have to admit. All they care about is the political side of things. They shouldnt judge us about what happened in the past. Its history, it will not repeat its self will it? Its not like we can go back in time and change the whole world and how it ran. I'm sick of it. Everyone judges us by what happened in the 1900's. Am I right or wrong?

Eurovision song contest '08?
So what do you want to do? Declare war on Russia?

It's a piss-poor song contest - it doesn't matter. Get over it.
Reply:Ever since we joined the European Community we have been victims of their corruption, ...and the Song contest was another way of telling us so.

The results of the competition was just a way of telling us they are getting their own back.

I think it is time we called it a day and forgot all about Europe and let's start another song contest called "UK Counties Only (and Southern Ireland) Song Contest", ...and give Terry Wogan a pay rise for making nearly all of his predictions during the 2008 contest correct.
Reply:Well... it is all political really! All the eastern bloc countries tend to 'have each others back' in the voting! I remember watching it a few years back and Ireland would always give England a high number of points and vise-versa, similarily all the scandinavians would vote for each other! I'm sure that bycotting it wouldnt be the answer though...i like the Eurovision...its a bit of light entertainment that gives you a range of emotions; from embarassement for the competitors to joy when your country does well! Put it this way...at least ye didn't have a feckin turkey representing ye! lol
Reply:I don't know, i think the eastern block countries with their communist block background seem almost genetically programed to vote for each other. Should Britain pull out of it?....Well there is something weird about the Eurovision song contest....its so cheesy that I can't believe we take part anyway, but it's almost like the country needs to be represented is one really cheesy thing a year....a cheese fix...and that's it.
Reply:No, actually everyone judges by what happened after the war in Iraq. You had a lot of success before that.

Anyway, I agree that Andy was really good and that it's def. all politics.

Erm... to the lady above... Boycotting the Eurovision would be kind of silly, considering you're actually funding it. It's a cheesy contest anyway, so don't worry too much about it. Nobody thinks this year's result was fair anyway.
Reply:50% of Turkey is in Europe, the rest in Asia.

Israel is definitely not in Europe so I'm not sure what's up with that.

I'm not sure why the UK did so poorly. The song was better than some of the others but I think maybe some of the other European countries relate more to each other than they do with the UK.
Reply:I'm American, so maybe I'm ignorant of matters like Eurovision, but I want to know how/when Azerbaijan and Turkey became European countries? What is up with Eurovision's bizarre combination of all things corny and all things political?
Reply:I'm just blown away by Albania giving Serbia 8 points after the whole ethnic cleansing thing in Kosovo. Maybe it isn't all political.
Reply:It's an awful trashy programme trapped in the early 1970's.
Reply:I hope we decide to kick the competition into touch for it a contest which Britain will never win again.
Reply:you are right and I have written to the sun newspaper saying we should start a campaign to boycott it next year
