Eurovision - Song Contest or Politics?

What do you think? If Terry Wogan can predict the 12 points most of the time like he did last night, then do you think it's the country and not the actual song that are getting the points?

Your views would be appreciated!

Eurovision - Song Contest or Politics?
There is the Balkan group, the ex USSR group, the Scandinavian group..... Small countries belonging to no group have not much luck.... Greece being third, having only Cyprus for support, is a real success since it had to "fight" with giant groups. Russia's song was nice, but not so much better from many others participating...

I believe the voting system must change, because now it is almost a joke!! Everybody knows where the 12 points will be given by some country!! It is pure politics, and the fun and pleasure of a song contest is really lost.
Reply:It is all politics at this point, and it is gonna be an uphill battle for any country outside the "Eastern Bloc" to win.

It is also a shame that most of the countries do not sing even 1/2 their song in their native language. It should be required that they do. Otherwise it can be called "Anglovision".

I was rooting for England, good song and vocals, but that doesn't count in this "song" contest.
Reply:I have watched it nearly every year of my life (I'm 41) and it was always for the laugh. I always remembered it as being the competition that gave us the Israeli transexual, Diggi Loo Diggi Lay and Boom Bang a Bang. Every so often a really nice song won and you knew when you watched it that the really nice song might win or the typical euro dance, catchy chorus one might win.

These days it's ALL about politics and it's ruined pure and simple. The UK is one of the biggest sponsors of the event so that should stop for a start. Why should our European counterparts promote their politics at the expense of our Television License?

It should stop. Leave them to it. It was never much of a competition for the best song but it was good for pure entertainment value, but it's a joke now and we should have no part of it. Andy Abraham is a brilliant singer and his song was average yes but it deserved more marks than that.

Kind of thinking Ireland had the right idea with the turkey in a trolley act. Sums the whole thing up really.
Reply:Politics. Anytime you can predict who is going to get top points from a specific country before they've been given has to indicate results other than simply the choice of music. I reckon Terry Wogan predicted who was going to get 12 points in at least 60% if not more of the results last night.
Reply:it is pure politic's and has been for years,it is not a *contest* anymore unfortunately.we never win now as no-one values England's friendship in the union anymore as we have become a laughing stock :-(
Reply:Its always been political. The reason we came joint last is because Ireland got knocked out and we always get voted by ireland. Best thing the uk can do is pull out and let the eurocrates get on with it. We dont need europe.
Reply:I think it is down to politics mostly but it is a song contest there shouldn't be anything political about it, but thats the world these days!
Reply:Politics, every1 just voted 4 their neighbours♥
