Isn't it time we pulled out of the Eurovision Song Contest?

I was being particularly sad Saturday night. Partner was asleep and I was 'flicking' through the channels and arrived halfway through the voting. I didn't bother to watch the end but, with all the political voting isn't it time we gave up?

Isn't it time we pulled out of the Eurovision Song Contest?
Andy Abrahams song was awful and dident deserve to win ,But if we had put up a fantastic song we still wouldnt have won so yes lets get out now, But I would miss Terry Wogan ,I think they should have a Panel of voters from Countrys in the world who dont enter Australia China the States example
Reply:I purposely didn't watch the Eurovison on Saturday because it doesn't seem to matter if there is a best song at all, it all depends on where they are from. It was bad enough when all the Baltic countries voted for each other but now with Russia coming in with all her countries, I thought Russia was in Asia? All the fawning around by the presenters makes me squirm. Until they come up with an alternative way to vote, so that there are no political voting, I won't be watching it again. Lets face it the songs aren't very different anyway as they seem to be very similar in their beat or words (when translated). Don't forget every culture likes different things which is a good thing, so it's quite unlikely that we'll all like the same version of the song.
Reply:We shouldn't pull out no, but what should happen is that in addition to the normal voting, we should also effectively be able to double the points via a panel of judges (one/two from each country). So for example the U.K has the best song, we could and should get 12 points for our efforts. We may get 0 points in the vote, but at least the concept of a fair song contest can raise half the points. So each country could end up each turn with 24 points potentially. It would make the competition fairer, and balance the odds to make the Eurovision fairer.

As the BBC sponsors the Eurovision, if the above isn't done then we could always pull the plug on it until our demands are met. I'm sure our other founding member friends will feel the same.
Reply:I'm not so sure that it is political voting, there are so many eastern European nations in the competition now that they are bound to do well. Latvians, Russians and Ukrainians etc are all likely to have very similar tastes, and quite honestly I thought that our song should have been near the bottom anyway, it was just plain boring.
Reply:I completely forgot it was on until I saw something on Yahoo about Andy What-sis-name being our singer! I haven't even heard the song that was our entry!

I haven't watched a whole Eurovision show in years, usually just watch the voting to see where the political alliances lay....but didn't even bother with that this year.

I remember when I was a nipper the whole family used to get together, Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, cousins %26amp; we'd all have tea together %26amp; then watch the Eurovision together. It was an evening to look forward to....especially as it was one of the seldom nights us kids got to stay up late.

Unfortunately, the final nail went into the Eurovision coffin years ago %26amp; it is time it was laid to rest. xx
Reply:No we shouldnt quit!

The problem is that the public vote for which song to enter into the competition....and the british public are very different to the french public, the swedish public and the austrian public. We enjoy binge drinking, underage sex and fighting in the street; whilst they enjoy wearing lederhosen, eating garlic and throwing donkeys of church towers.

You see we are just too different, and if our entry was chosen by a panel that understood that our european cousins like bubblegum pop and high energy house music, and chose accordingly then we might just have a chance.

Just because we're crap is not a reason to quit. Quitters never win, and winners never quit.
Reply:Yes we should.

The UK has no chance of ever winning as it's all too political now.

I read yesterday that the eastern european countries dont even stump up any money towards the cost of the putting the show on. The UK give £2 million of tax payers money!!

We should walk away and never look back!
Reply:no...the Brits don't quit just because they lost. it might be a better idea to change the voting...either have annonymous voting or revert back to the days when each country had a panel of judges...%26amp; not the public voting - that's a better idea.
Reply:Yes , oh yes please, the songs are an embarrassment, the voting political and the money could be much better spent elsewhere.
Reply:yes, yes yes..please.mary.c.its alway been political voting.
Reply:I stopped watching this years ago. It's just too boring. Yes I think we should pull out. It is not a matter of giving up because we are not winning, the whole thing has had it's day.
Reply:I wholeheartedly agree with Brown Hat.
Reply:Definitely

It's been a waste of time for years
Reply:the last few years it has been political time we pulled out
Reply:it was alright for a laugh when it first started but now its to big
Reply:YES we should.

Its a BLOODY EMBARRESMENT!!!!
Reply:i don't think the programme was ever any good, or our songs from the uk. there was never anything exciting about either.
Reply:yes we should pull out
