Eurovision song contest question... im confused!!?

I know that the voting for the contest is all political now and not based on the songs at all anymore but i dont understand how that happens.





I mean, its each individual person's vote and they choose who they vote for. So why would they want to vote for their neighbouring country over another?





Ok, maybe its because they have friends in that neighbouring country or go on holidays there so they want to vote for that country. But surely there are lots who purposely wouldnt vote for that country so that they dont win and have something better to boast about.





Sorry if this is a dumb question (well... i am blonde!) but i seriously just dont get it.

I dont believe that the 'public'm really vote, it is much too shorter time to actually count up the votes. I think it is more of GMTV type thing that goes on there.





Or people are very politcally minded in other countries and are emotionally affected by different things. That would explain why the french didnt give us any points, even though we are neighbours.
