Is Eurovision Song Contest popular in your country?(I am asking the ones whose country participates)?

I am from Greece and Eurovision the last 4-5 years is very popular, but I've heard that in other countries, such as the UK,this contest is not popular....at all!

Is Eurovision Song Contest popular in your country?(I am asking the ones whose country participates)?
It is not very popular here in the UK as a serious contest because the voting is too political. However our host Terry Wogan is very funny and makes a joke of this whilst it is on the TV. This means that most of the UK that do watch the contest do so because they do not take it seriously.
Reply:i luv eurovision, i don't live in uk, but my cousin does and he says that it's not very popular, i wish i could visit uk, i watch lots of british shows, bc my cousin tells me about them. I really luv the series bad girls. i've seen terry wogan's show, and he is so funny Report Abuse

Reply:uk never gets a lot of votes anymore, and i especially luv last years entry (2005) javine with the song touch my fire Report Abuse

Reply:It is very popular here in Bosnia and it has always been though we also think it is very political kind of thing. It is obvious when it comes to the voting!

This year, our representatives won the third place and no one here expected them even to qualify to the next year's finale! Concerning the winners - Finland, not Lithuania :) - general opinion is that they were refreshing but not really the best song on the contest.

And it is also obvious that countries like UK, France, Italy and Germany don't care much about it - songs which represent them are worse and worse every year!
Reply:it is one of the most popular events of the year, especially for younger people.
Reply:I think we here in the UK are the only country who see the whole thing as a joke. i think the other countries take it far more seriously.

Terry Wogan is a scream. Eurovision wouldn't be Eurovision without him.
Reply:It's popular here in Sweden! Out of approximately 9.000.000 people about 1.500.000 people watch ESC.
Reply:I live in the UK and I don't think that anyone really takes the contest seriously anymore as countries just vote for their neighbours. That being said, I think a lot of people do watch it though.
Reply:Yes, in the UK it's seen primarily as an opportunity to laugh at foreign people performing really bad songs, so it's kind of popular in an ironic way. The music has no value, is seen as laughably poor.
Reply:I am from Romania . Yeah is popular . Romanias song is popular 2 .
Reply:Im from U.K don't think it is popular with the young people has it was eg 10years ago.

How many times has ireland won the eurovision song contest?
Best result 1st; 1970, 1980, 1987, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996
Reply:Seven times in total. It's embarrassing.
Reply:Yea 7 times. Orla there is nothing embarrasing about it. Its a good night. We had a couple of good songs in those winners.
Reply:Ireland won the Contest for the first time in 1970 with Dana performing "All Kinds of Everything". In total, the country has won the Contest seven times, more than any other country.

Does anyone know if any U.S. channel will be broadcasting the Eurovision song contest from Athens,Greece?

The Eurovision song contest is an annual European contest that takes place in a different city every year (it takes place in a city of the country that won the year before)

Does anyone know if any U.S. channel will be broadcasting the Eurovision song contest from Athens,Greece?
You are best watching it live on the Internet. You can watch it from the Eurovision website, the BBC also stream live from their website with excellent and very funny commentary from Sir Terry Wogan but I'm not sure if you have to be in the UK to view it, when i was in the USA i could watch BBC national news streamed so I think it shouldn't be a problem.

The first link will take you directly to the BBC Eurovision player so you can check if it works over there.

And yes NBC are palning an American version of the contest to rival American Idol
Reply:I wanted to watch it here in the US, so I found out what channel on Directv would be offering it. I had to subscribe to a package of Spanish language channels, but TVE International (the national channel of Spain) is carrying the finals Saturday and I believe the semifinals on Thursday also. TVE is channel 407 on Directv. Even though this channel is in Spanish, the show is mostly songs in English and I'm not sure if they will overdub or subtitle the announcers from the Athens stage, Maria Menounos and Sakis Rivas.
Reply:Yes there is. Go on www.esctoday.www or www.eurovision.tv and you can watch it online live on 22 May. Or you can watch it on satellite on nearly every national TV of European countries: like ARD (Germany) on ASTRA, RTS (Serbia) on HOT BIRD, HRT (Croatia) on HOT BIRD, ORF (Austria) on ATRA and and and. By the way, American TV association have bought rights from European Broadcasting Union to organize similar competition in USA. Have fun!!!

What do you think of the Eurovision song contest?

Are you like me in thinking what a load of Twaddle?

That the only good thing about it is Terry Wogan taking the P out of all the contestants?

What do you think of the Eurovision song contest?
It is so bad that it's good (in an awful way). My favourite thing about the Eurovision is that ISRAEL are allowed to take part! I have nothing against Israel, but I want to know when it became part of Europe!

On that basis, Syria, Iraq and Labanon should each have entries.
Reply:I think it's twaddle to but i can't help watching it mainly because of Terry Wogan's coments! It wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for him!
Reply:Farcical, can't stand it, I'm glad I know where the off button is.
Reply:Its a farse

the eastern block only vote for each other

and dont give points to the good singers
Reply:It is rubbish, and the various countries involved aren`t "sports" they will not vote for a country if they disagree with its` foreign policy etc. It is no longer a friendly song contest. It is a vehicle for political veto's.
Reply:god, why dont they pick up the nerve and end this ordeal on us all??its embarrassing even to watch never mind listen to it...truly awful...truly
Reply:I love it. I think that it is wonderful. I remember past winners,[ in past years] . For example, Puppet On A String ; Life Is Made For Living. I thought that the competition was discontinued, I am please to hear that it is still vibrant.
Reply:I think it is brilliant. Simply because of the absolutely sh*t songs %26amp; over the top presentations by the singers.

Terry Wogan makes it must see entertainment with his comments.

Lordi, last years winners had a really good sound %26amp; their album is very good. However, Eurovision is the only music show that would ever have a group looking like them on.
Reply:Fur your attempt at a question ill give you nil poit!

Will France: Sébastien Tellier - "Divine" win the Eurovision Song Contest - and is it blasphemous or... not?

I know. You're about to scream at this question - especially as it relates to the Eurovision Song Contest. But the French entry is actually quite a good catchy song by Sébastien Tellier. So why is it in the ESC?

Track record:

Tellier's entry has caused some controversy. The tongue-in-cheek video features a bearded, long-haired Sébastien-alike in a number of Christ-like poses. But the French themselves are more concerned that Sébastien is singing in English. However, the French Eurovision committee may have made a savvy move as songs performed in English are more likely to win.

WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW

Will France: Sébastien Tellier - "Divine" win the Eurovision Song Contest - and is it blasphemous or... not?
See this is the reason Eurosong is no longer useful. It's like putting heavy metal fans along with rap lovers. It doesn't gel! At least the Western European countries mostly had similar tastes in music and the winner usually was quite well received in all countries. But now? Lordi, two years ago, showed that if the song is worth it and special, it can still win, but when you see that Russia is the favorite EVERY YEAR you KNOW something is not right.

The Eastern countries are just too tightly knit and there's still a large gap between our culture and theirs when it comes to movies %26amp; music. When you see how many Eastern countries got through the semi-finals it's obvious that Eurosong is losing a lot of appeal to the West.

Not to say Eurosong has had much value over the years, but at least it felt like a decent competition even if the Belgian entry was nearly always crap. But when you don't even stand a chance of making the finals ...
Reply:According to the latest researches the top 5 favorites are:

1.Russia

2.Serbia (the host)

3.Armenia

4.Ukraine

5.Sweden

The french entry is on the 18th place.

Yes,I've heard the french are not very happy Sébastien's song is in english.I think they made him add at least 5 french words to the song, which he did.But his english is not clear,I think most native english speakers don't understand him.

I couldn't play the video.A note showed up telling "This content is only available to watch in the UK".
Reply:It should win. Who in eurovision could ever compete?

Why dont they scrap the eurovision song contest ?

why dont they scrap the eurovision song contest the songs are rubbish and everyone votes for thier neighbours, they should scrap it and have a world song competition with judges.

Why dont they scrap the eurovision song contest ?
They should, It's trash and it's all down to politicians.
Reply:because someone somewhere is getting rich from it, this is why.

Think at the very least they should put it on at a time when it doesnt screw up all the other programmes- all the normal saturday night stuff has been cut an for what?! a version of kareoke??

they should put it on insted of priminitsers question time or the queens speach or something, just to remind the people watching of where we really stand in the world in terms of popularity and polatics, and if they already know, why bother showing it?
Reply:I'm not sure that a world contest would work either, just because they don't seem to 'get' our style of music.

I do think there are tons of us that see the Eurovision as a guilty pleasure - but I hate the fact that its costing the UK so much money. And that we only get through to the final because we donate so much to the 'show'.

Having said that - I would be devastated if Sir Terry stopped doing the commentary, it for me is the whole reason I watch.
Reply:Unfortunately it has a huge following all over the world. I agree with you - I cant bear to watch it is such a predictable thing now of who will vote for who according to politics xxx
Reply:no they should just call it 'the russia, greece and ukraine' song contest. they are always near the top anyway
Reply:I agree with you George, but you can always get a good laugh at Terry Wogans comments,,but the results are a pure farce.
Reply:Britain should not take part in the East european eurovision, its just a political joke.

Terry got it right when he said that there is no one left to vote for us anymore.
Reply:Because its fun to laugh at foreigners and Terry Wogans commentary.
Reply:Because the rest of Europe love it lol
Reply:Yes, it's a joke!
Reply:NNNNNOOOOOOOO! you cant do that its so funny!
Reply:or get decent bands to represent each country.
Reply:Because it's a guilty pleasure with extra cheese!

Singing on JUNIOR EUROVISION SONG CONTEST ! Need help...?

Dear Yahoo! Answers Members,

Im a 13 years old boy !

Tommorow is my first audition for representing my country on this years Junior Eurovision Song Contest ! I wrote and composed the song all by myself and everyone loves it. To be chosen to represent my country I must pass +10000000000 autidions and castings ! Tommorow is my first one ! Im singing only for a hobby (and getting famous) so I dont have any private or any other kind of singing lessons. YOU have to give me some tips. How to make your voice sound even better, using the diaphragm, singing high notes,.....All tips that make you sing better are really welcome ! THANKS A LOT !

Singing on JUNIOR EUROVISION SONG CONTEST ! Need help...?
Although singing high notes are impressive, if you cannot hit that note, you will recieve low scores.

Sing your song in a key that best suits you. If you are an Alto, use that to your advantage. When you are more experienced, and believe 100% that you can hit higher notes, go ahead, it will be to your advantage.

Make sure you breathe at the appropriate intervals, don't break up words and breathe, as this will sound like you're struggling.

Stay calm. Think that you have already won.

As long as you have a good time, that's all that matters.

It is only THEIR opinion. not the worlds.

Belgrade - the host of this year's Eurovision Song Contest?

What are your expectations and impressions of Belgrade as a city, as an organiser and what do you expect from the locals? I'm also interested about your opinion of Belgrade...

Belgrade - the host of this year's Eurovision Song Contest?
I've been many times in Belgrade and I really enjoyed it,it's a beautyful city!

I've watched 'Beovizija' and I wasn't pleased about what I saw...The organization wasn't really good, they had a lot of problems with the programme...In my opinion it's not good for them to have inexperienced youth as hosts.Anything could go wrong and they couldn't handle it...Remember the last Beovision?People were throwing bottles at that Montenegrin band and the hosts were just staying and staring...I hope they'll realize and fix the problem this year, cause I'm going to Belgrade to watch Eurovision
Reply:i'm sure you'll organize it great. People usually underestimate us, Balkanians ;op

regards from Macedonia
Reply:I agree with Kaja, that might happen to another country (probably some that recognized the independence of Kosovo) and then what..Also, I don't think Zeljko and that girl Jovana or Jelena are the best choice for hosts
Reply:they will do it just right, probably much better then the one in Athens

What channel in USA will broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest?

That's a bigest song contest in Europe.

It will be held in Athens on 18 and 20 May (Semi Final and Final).

What channel in USA will broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest?
I doubt you can watch it on a TV channel in the States - but you will be able to watch it online over the net.

Try www.eurovision.tv

The semi final and final will be screened live there over the net, and currently on that official website you are able to see the videos of all the countries entries.

Have fun watching! I shall actually be in the audience on both nights. :)
Reply:You can try to look for it in European tv in satellite.

OMG too many years trying to avoid it...

If Alex Ferguson had been his manager would Andy Abraham would have won the Eurovision song contest or should?

next year's entry employ Avram Grant?

Should the organisers of the eurovision song contest be charged with crimes against humanity?

They have given us "brotherhood of man" , "the new seekers", "ABBA", and many other tortuous talents that have persecuted the ears of millions.

The latest runner up from the Ukraine with the lyrics "I'm not easy but i am true" from the song "secret combination" is totally beyond ridiculous.

Please I think there is enough suffering in this world with Eurovision ... What is your opinion?

Should the organisers of the eurovision song contest be charged with crimes against humanity?
If you don't like it don't watch it.Eurovision is not worse than Australian Idol or any other singing competition.Besides it only happens once a year and people forget about it as soon as it is over.In reality some of the acts are stupid and funny but then so is life.Secret combination was actually sang by the Greeks and not Ukraine.

Why do Uk automatically be entered for the final of eurovision song contest?

when other countries have to go through semi finals and that?

it seems that UK is always through no matter what

Why do Uk automatically be entered for the final of eurovision song contest?
Because the BBC contribute a significant amount of money to running the contest. Germany, France and Spain also contribute a lot of money so these countries also get automatic entry into the final. Collectively those countries are known as the Eurovision "Big Four".
Reply:As well as Stuart B's answer, we have won it a certain number of times which gives us a secure place in the final (along with Ireland and any other coutry that has won it many times)

Don't ask me how that works...

The Swedish Entry in the Eurovision song contest?

I noticed when Watching the Eurovision song contest, that the Swedish entry was very similar to another song, but for the life of me I can't think what! Anyone got any ideas?

You can listen here ;

The Swedish Entry in the Eurovision song contest?
Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes by Edison Lighthouse.
Reply:yes, it was that 'nobody knows' song, it was sooo similar! Another entry was like that too, it was the one with the woman singing by the bus stop, it was very similar to the song Midnight Hour
Reply:sounds like a mix of a load of stuff from the 70's.

it bugged me cos they pinched a bowie lyric from quicksand!
Reply:it sounds similar to a track that i bought which some guy made when he was 8 and it is called i am an astronaught and sounds quite similar
Reply:son of my father by chicory tip
Reply:its the song off shallow hall at the end of the film "love grows where my rosemary goes" by lighthouse edison. At the start of the song it's similar to the swedish entry. "She aint got no money her clothes are kinda funny" etc I'm glad someone other than me noticed it

Eurovision Song Contest! Does anyone care? I hope it they do kick us out!!?

Eurovision Song Contest! Does anyone care? I hope it they do kick us out!!?
well they wont kick us out they will just put us into semi finals. but the bbc would then cut back the amount of cash it puts into bbc. ebu who are in control of eurovision aint daft enough to go down that road. cant see it happening. its more likly that the bbc would just tell ebu that they withdraw completely. and after the ratings bbc got for the contest this year and last that wont happen either.
Reply:To hell with them, the music is always awful, hours and hours of awful pop music.

Why not have a common wealth type song contest, were the countries are incouraged to sing in their native languages etc.

Just what ever happens, NO MORE AWFUL POP MUSIC!!!!
Reply:I care! I think we need to stay in it purely because the other countries need someone to laugh at. It's not even about talent anymore, which annoys me. But at the end of the day, we don't want to win because we can't afford to host Eurovision and 2012.
Reply:Couldn't agree more Mrs G!!! It's past it's sell by date and I think Britain should withdraw their cash and their place before they can throw us out! Who wants to take part in something so predictable and political anyway? Ooooh I have just borrowed your soap box!!
Reply:Nope ! Kick us out !!! You'll be doing us a favour !! we won't have to go thro this F@$kin ritual that is just an excuse for yet another bloody talentless show ever year looking for our entry ??!?!?!?

I mean Come on !!!! a Bin man ?!?!?!?!?!?
Reply:lets face it we're never going to win again are we ! Gone are the days when it was actually a *song* contest ,its become an absolute farce so let the other countries get on with it without us !!
Reply:I sincerely hope so, think of all the money we could save, and also the usual tv programming won't be disturbed.
Reply:In my opinion I think the eurovision finished when Bucks Fizz won it, because since that era there has been no good songs since
Reply:Let's just ignore the stupid thing in future...it will just fizzle out into a slow, but painless death.

Then we can start a new competition, with proper voting rules, and only invite our 'friends'.
Reply:Well after yet another disastrous year Mrsg - I couldn't give a Shite !!
Reply:No,lets get kicked out and once a year put on a real concert on the box!!.
Reply:I couldn't give a stuff!
Reply:Couldn't give a flying monkeys! lol

Eurovision song contest 2008 music?

Does anyone know the name of the piece of music that played when the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 went to adverts? It was a violin piece, sounded very sad. It played very, very briefly when the red and blue paint stuff was forming the treble cleff. It was very lovely, although sounded sad.

Anyone know?

By the way, congratulations to Russia for winning =)

Eurovision song contest 2008 music?
Hello. If you listen carefully you will note that the music is last year's winning song: 'Molitva'. Music by Vladimir Graic. Listen to the opening of the show, when the paint appears. It's most obvious there. x

Is it time for Western Europe to have their own Eurovision Song contest?

Judging by the voting, whether it be political or just down to individual taste, we don't go down to well in Eastern Europe.

The UK and German entries deserved more than a paltry 14 points.

I thought that Andy Abraham was really good, not enough to win it but he deserved to finish in the top ten.

Perhaps we should stop our funding or not take part in the contest for a couple of years.

Thank You

Is it time for Western Europe to have their own Eurovision Song contest?
The Eastern Europeans should be kicked out. You get these little countries like Latvia, Estonia, etc all think they are too good to be part of Russia anymore, but carry on buttlicking them all the same. Grow a pair, Eastern Europeans!!

Actually, let's just get rid of the contest completely. Our entry was rubbish, sorry but that's just my opinion. And if Terry Wogan goes, like he says he will, then it will no longer be worth watching anyway.
Reply:We already have, its called the Eurovision song contest. Unfortunately recently we have started letting in any old Eastern country no matter how small (and some who aren't even in Europe at all ahem ISRAEL).

Plus we fund most of it and televise it and they don't pay a thing. UK GERMANY SPAIN AND FRANCE I THINK.

The BBC usually ends up televising and filming it, at least it used to dunno about this year, because Eastern countries would win and host but not have the money or company to film it thereselves.
Reply:It was funny, wasn't it..me and my mate were giving the correct scores the Eastern European countries were giving out, before they even read them out themselves and of course Denmark, Iceland, Norway were just as bad.... Its so funny watching all these countries kissing each others Arses....

Spain got it right though.. dress up like twats...and you might get some sympathy votes...

On a serious note though the UK was not going to get a lot of votes because Eastern Europeans are so racist..poor Andy didn't have a chance.

Ok Ok, I have deleted the Malta comment!! it was a joke.. I would have voted for Malta..if they were in it..
Reply:I 100% agree with you!x)

EDIT:Why the hell the answerer on me is saying ''Thanks for nothing Malta'',it's not that we are in the eurovision to give the 12 points for the UK!

EDIT:Alright....x)
Reply:What I have noticed is that since there have been more East European countries, Europe is speaking more English and less French.
Reply:I agree it is time we had our own contest. No western countries gave any points to russia. I agree with Terry Wogan its no longer a music contest thanks to the political voting!

Thanks
Reply:does anyone seriously care about winning? its just a laugh, if it was anything more serious than a joke they wouldnt have a voting system like that
Reply:I agree, the voting system stinks and Russian weren't even that good
Reply:agreed
Reply:I was praying that Portugal would win.
Reply:Yes!

Who do you think should have won the Eurovision Song contest?

Please try to answer this without politically looking at a country, but just by your own taste in music.

Who do you think should have won the Eurovision Song contest?
Greek has already won it!

Because Greece fought alone, having to face the ex USSR group, the Scandinavian group, The Balkan group.

And she reached 3rd place. Yes, Greece has won.
Reply:GREECE should have won! Kalomira's song was brilliant... shes would have been the ideal winner for the contest!! Young, beautiful and well able to sing!! MUCH BETA DA RUSSIA'S SONG!!! He only won because of block voting and the fact he's like Russia's equivalent of Ireland's WESTLIFE!!! The whole block voting fiasco is beginning to become tedious now!! Otherwise, Norway was very gud song,, but i have to emphasise that Greece should really have won!! HER SONG WAS DEADLY!!!!!!!!! If only my own country ,Ireland , would cop on and send a famous group like ' Westlife' or even someone dats halfway descent .... anything but a bloody turkey!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I thought Israels song was the best !!
Reply:Greece.

Am i the only one who thinks the eurovision song contest should be scrapped for good?

Well, with entrants like Scooch and Jemini for the UK....hmmm.

Am i the only one who thinks the eurovision song contest should be scrapped for good?
Yeah waste of money, and we don't get any votes anymore so it's a waste of time....
Reply:No you are not alone in wanting the Eurovision Song Contest scrapped, the only good thing about the contest is Terry Wogan. Its worth watching the show just to hear all his funny remarks. No one is going to vote for the UK as they are all too busy voting for their fellow countries in Europe. Even if the UK had the best song ever, it would still not get the votes it deserved, so yes scrap the contest.
Reply:I think it's great for a load of laughs :D it's usually my birthday around that weekend so I have my friends over and we have a right giggle :P

I was having a right laugh last year cause when it came to voting, all the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente countries were backing each other. I was like, THE WAR IS OVER GUYS! IT FINISHED LIKE SIXTY YEARS AGO, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PRETEND TO LIKE EACH OTHER ANY MORE!
Reply:No need to scrap it, just don't take it seriously.

Terry Wogan is funny on it and it is more of a camp fest than a musical one!

It is genuinely funny!
Reply:Lol, I can't even name any recent UK entries. Except Jordan :P I think it's a waste of time really. And not very entertaining
Reply:The EURO PONG CONTEST should be a thing of the past!!! NO NO NO u r not the only one . They should DIE and DIE AGAIN KILL KILL KILL hahahah

Is anyone else really cheesed off that Doctor Who has been cancelled for the Eurovision Song Contest this week

With regards to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Why , why, why ? Do we have to keep this ridiculously tacky, nauseating and crumby tradition going. Let it die for goodness sake!

Is anyone else really cheesed off that Doctor Who has been cancelled for the Eurovision Song Contest this week
My sons are seriously cheesed of! Now I have to go and buy a DVD to keep them happy!
Reply:It's out of order! Why don't they put it on BBC2 or Three instead? Nobody cares about this stupid contest anymore!
Reply:I think it´s good the cancelled Doctor Who! I watched it one time when i lived in London and sorry, but it´s so rubbish. I can´t believe its allowed to show stuff like that on TV !

And the Eurovision Song Contest is good in many ways! One of probably too few things that actually unite the whole europe and lets you get a opportunity to get to know other countries and their culture. And this is something you English should be happy about, since you have no knowledge at all about other countries than England.
Reply:Absolutely.

Why do we have to suffer this stupid pointless cheesy contest on prime time Saturday night TV?

Just take your TARDIS one week forward in time and skip it.

I'm more upset that we chose Scooch over the piece of quality music that came second.

How can I watch Eurovision song contest in the USA?

I know that there may be a webcast from the official website, but when will it be on? Is any channel in American TV going to show it?

How can I watch Eurovision song contest in the USA?
www.eurovision.tv
Reply:The other answers for www.eurovision.tv are correct, but no payment is required. Its completely free. Just select "MediaCentre", then "Click here to launch the MediaCentre!", then "Live", lastly select "2007 Eurovision Song Contest - Final". You may be required to download a plug-in to watch it. It starts at 21:00 CET, which is Noon PDT, 1pm MDT, etc. Enjoy! Its really a lot of fun; unless you talk to someone from the UK or Europe...they'll warn you against watching it ;-)
Reply:Don't do it to yourself! You're safe over there. Everyone knows what's going to happen anyway. All the scandinavian countries will vote for each other, greece will vote for turkey and vice versa to make out they don't hate each other, portugal and spain will vote for each other, so will all the eastern bloc. The UK meanwhile will finish last because everyone hates us for not joining the Euro and going to Iraq.
Reply:I thought that Eurovision.tv now has an option to pay and watch it streamed online?

The Eurovision Song Contest isn't licensed for US broadcast (no American channel, including BBC America, has the rights).

You can see it if you have something like DISH Network or an international channel, specifically a European one.

You can watch the show live from anywhere in the world on eurovision.tv if you download the Octoshape plug-in, though.

Eurovision song contest?

In my opinion my country(Malta) has a nice song for the eurovision song contest. How many of you know the song? and do you like it?

Eurovision song contest?
I heard that song. I like it very much. I think theres somerthing ver unique about it. By the way you answered one of my questions before but I was just wondering if you could give me more information. Thanks I would be very grateful. I chose your answer as the best answer!!!

Turmeric???

Is it true that turmeric removes unwanted hair? If it is how do you use it and how long does it work. Does it acually remove hair or does it just bleach it. Wondering, and thanks in advance.

Best Answer - Chosen By You

Take equal quantities of turmeric powder and wheat flour and make a paste with sesame oil. Apply it to the face to remove unwanted hair.

cheers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

So I was still wondering...

Thanks for the information. What I don't understand is how long do you keep the paste on for? Does it hurt? How long will the area be hairless? Also do I heat the sesame oil? Should It be applied thick or thin. Please let me know so I can use it. You can contact me by emailing me. Thanks in advance.
Reply:I dont know. I dont even know what song is being sung by the singer representing my country yet. (England)

Why cant a proffesional singer represent the UK in the Eurovision song Contest?

Ive always wondered why they get people who no one has ever heard of to sing for the UK, who picks them? Ive seen better on Britains got talent!

Why cant a proffesional singer represent the UK in the Eurovision song Contest?
Thanks to UK TV-commentator, people in UK are more interested in his sick and sarcastic comments. Eurovision became a-commentator-show and viewers are more interested in his bla-bla than in music. You can not expect a serious singer to attend a contest and to be wiped out by his ill-mannered comments.

BTW, this years song representing UK is very good.
Reply:Well, they did years ago when Sandie Shaw, Cliff Richard and Lulu all represented the UK (and they were big stars when they did). I don't think it's a case of professional singers not being allowed to represent the UK anymore, it's just who would want to given how rubbish the winning song usually is. I mean, imagine you're Kylie, or Scouting for Girls or whoever, and you lose to a bunch of Belgians in tight satin shorts singing 'Bingy Bangy Bongy'. That would be 'career over' time. My advice, kick back on Saturday night with a bottle of Thunderbird, a pack of Bennies and just enjoy the stupidity of it.
Reply:i woud like to disguise Leona Lewis , and ask her to sing with the name "Keona Mewis" , im not offending her by saying that . she has a great voice . i dont think we will ever win it again . i heard that apparently they're not allowed to be famous to sing , but Hanna Pakarinen from 2007 Finland , is a huge star in Finland and so is Dima Bilan from Russia , who has been on ESC 3 times or 2 times .
Reply:Because they don't want to taint their careers. Their managers would never let them enter this competition. Imagine as well if they ranked extremely low, it's very bad for them in many ways and professional well established singers don't exactly *need* to enter these kinds of contests.
Reply:We have had past, well known singers, sing for Eurovision. I remember Cliff singing, Lulu, and also Michael Ball. There have been many others also.
Reply:The professionals won`t go near it as it has a bad reputation....

Oh and I agree with you I too have seen better on Britain's go talent....
Reply:I used to ask that to my parents and they always said it´s because id they end up in a low position that might harm their career..
Reply:Cause it wouldnt be as humerous
Reply:Because they might be good, which would break with tradition.
Reply:It's a waste of time with the bloc voting.
Reply:You know what? I totally agree with you....!!!!

Is anyone from abroad actually familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest held this year in Athens, Greece?

THE EUROVISON SONG CONTEST IS THE LONGEST SONG CONTEST IN THE WORLD AND ESPECIALLY UPGRADED IN THE LAST FEW YEARS. THIS YEAR GREECE -THE WINNER OF 2005 CONTEST- IS THE ORGANISOR OF THE CONTEST ALONG WITH ITS NATIONAL BROADCASTER ERT TELEVISION. A GREAT SHOW INDEED IS MUCH ANTICIPATED SINCE ALMOST 40 COUNTRIES WILL PARTICIPATE, HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF SPECTATORS WILL WATCH IT AND ALMOST 15 MILLION EUROS HAVE BEEN SPENT FOR IT! DO NOT MISS IT AFTER ALL. COME TO GREECE ANYWAY!!! EVERBODY IS ENTHUSIASTIC BY THE HOSPITALITY!!!

Is anyone from abroad actually familiar with the Eurovision Song Contest held this year in Athens, Greece?
I'm from Australia and I'm very familiar with it and all the contraversy that goes with it. This year it's around the hardrockers who the media seem to think have some connection to an underworld cult!

Strange that there's not too many countries from Western Europe competing though. There's some talk about there being a bit too much politics as well.
Reply:was the group antique part of that show?

Does bloc-voting predetermines who wins the Eurovision song contest?

I've read that bloc-voting is a big factor in the Eurovision. Listening to past winners it seems that music quality alone is not the only or even the major factor. So is Eurovision just about politics?

Does bloc-voting predetermines who wins the Eurovision song contest?
Definitely bloc-voting is a big factor but NOT enough to determine the winner,of course music plays role but quality not necessary(Ukraine 2007).what i want to Say is that maybe bloc voting offers a good place to a country but never the 1st place.for a country to manage the victory points from almost all the countries are needed,no eastern country can win with only eastern votes or western with the support from west only...

it's easy to understand this just by looking the winner every year,Finland came first because the song liked to Europe but this year didn't so it didn't get enough votes.

Was bill tarmey in eurovision song contest?

bill tarmey is jack duckworth in coronation street, I believe he was in a group that were contestants in the eurovision song contest

Was bill tarmey in eurovision song contest?
I was sad enough to watch, but I don't remember spotting Bill.
Reply:He used to be a singer though not sure about the Eurovision contest.
Reply:I don't believe that he has entered Eurovision as an indivual artist. He might have entered as a group but cannot find any immediate evidence that he did.
Reply:Nope, you're mistaken there, I'm afraid.... prior to 1977 and Brotherhood of Man (and I know for a fact he wasn;t in anything since then) the UK had been represented by a group on only 3 occasions - The Shadows, the New Seekers and the Allisons, none of which featured Bill Tarmey
Reply:not that i can remember
Reply:Bill Tarmey had a successful career as a singer, appearing with many bands at many venues. He gave up professional singing when he was offerred the part of Jack Duckworth in Coronation Street.

His rendition of " Wind beneath my wings" is in my opinion , one of the best ever recorded, especially when he sang it ti his wife ,Ali, on This is your life.

he did not however appear on Eurovision.

What did you think of this years Eurovision song contest?

Personally i think it was awful this year and Andy Abraham's song wasn't the best but it didn't deserve to come last!

Why do all the other countries hate us, and what is this thing about politics?

Also why can't we get someone like Take That to perform for our country?

What did you think of this years Eurovision song contest?
I'm thinking exactly the same.

Put someone half decent in for us and we'll be in with a shout.

If they were going to put X-Factor finalists into the Eurovision song contest atleast put Rhydian Roberts.

I guess it's just biased. They should have people outside of Europe voting!
Reply:Bring back Sir Cliff or Sandie Shaw.

We need a good established performer to represent us.

I,d love to see Robert Plant on the Eurovision stage.

However, the Balkan and Baltic states will still in future vote for each other so why not split the competition into Eastern and Western sections then those of the former Eastern Bloc can play their games as much as they like with each other
Reply:The main theme seems to be -

let's not do it again.

Leave it to Turkey, Israel, Russia etc (in

fact, all those countries we never thought for a second were in Europe)
Reply:Michelle Gayle should have represented us anyway.

Her song was far superior to Andy Abraham's song.

Even Terry Wogan and the panel agreed with this when they had a show called UK selects.

I don't know what the UK were thinking voting for him in front of Michelle.

Anyway, what a travesty, Russia was a horrendous song and in my opinion was the 2nd worst song of the night.

The only song it was better than was Romanias.

What was the ice skating bloke all about and how did the lead singers top just open on its own.

This was just too lame for words.

It shows you everyone hates the UK, however they want to live here for the free ride. Wake up UK and smell the coffee. You are the laughing stock of Europe. No wonder everyone whats to come here. Everyone who comes here takes and gives nothing back.

I was surprised Poland didn't give us more points.

Perhaps because all the Polish are now in England and can't Vote...
Reply:It was a complete farce, i think uk should back out and keep some dignity.
Reply:This argument has been ongoing for the past 5 years. Unfortunately Eurovision is no longer about the music but rather about back patting each other's neighbours. Andy Abrahams song, even though I personally did not like it, did not deserve to be last. The guy gave a wonderful performance, and his voice was spot on. The song is not the sort of crap that normally appeals to the Eurovision crowd, that's why it did not stand a chance. It has nothing to do with the Eurovision fans being predominantly gay as someone has stated here. The fact is that there are loads of Eastern countries voting for each other, and as Terry Wogan has quite clearly said, the West do not stand a chance of ever winning if this carries on. The best thing to do is for Britain to opt out of the Contest until this is sorted out. If the mayor countries boycott the contest, there is no way that the West will be able to fund it. That will sort them out. Every year is the same. The voting is so predictable, that it verges on the ridiculous. You can't really send someone like Take That, because they won't win. Its that simple. Spain and Ireland had it right this year. Send a crappy joke act / song. At least they can justify losing with a crappy act, rather than waste a perfectly good song / act on this farce of a contest. Perhaps next year All the Western countries could join together to make their own Contest, and let the Eastern countries to continue with the farce that is Eurovision.
Reply:well, a few days ago i read that the eurovision audience is a predominantly gay crowd. and having seen the winning entry, i believe so.
Reply:The real meaning of the event being SONG contest has long been gone completely, there are only nothing but second-class artists taking part to it with very forgettable songs. It's nothing but stage circus these days, and I miss the good old days very much when there were at least SOME decent music taking part!
Reply:Oh please, UK song was so simple... nothing special! It is so obviously that Western Countries don't effort at all! I think that ranking was absolutely rightful!

Russia was really the best - starting with performance, than song... it was obviously how much they made a effort

Ukraine, Serbia and Armenia had so powerful performance.

Norway song was so good.

UK has really good music and singers but you should be shamed on what you send to Eurosong!
Reply:Russia is a good song actually. That guy has an "Eros Ramazotti" look and probably for that reason, he might get some popularity all over Europe. But Eurovision always has been contra-dictionary. When people like to talk and discuss about it, well it means they have an opinion. Otherwise it would be totally ignored.

But I wont buy the winning song, will not buy the compilation cd.

And I did watch it on TV accidentaly..
Reply:read my question i postes about this to see how i feel about this ****...lol...

its ironic isnt it.... they all HATE us, however, they all know where to come for free healthcare, and a better life...etc etc...

i mean, they pretty much all f**king live here... the polish, muslims, pakis, chinese, nepolese, etc etc... but they hate us...

i hade an agruement with a foreigner in tesco today... she walked right infront of my trolley and stopped, so i pushed it into her, and she started having a go.... but like i told her, if it was the other way round, and she hit me and i started having a go.... she would claim she couldnt understand me...

I HATE THEM ALL!!!!
Reply:Rydian could perform for us as wales is in the UK!!

leona or take that should perform for us,.

the rules should be that the singer has to be from that country and sing in their own language.

that russian song was written and produced by timbaland, like when celine dion sang for sweden or something that way its the singer that has won and not the country cos the singers not from the country showing that it has no talent whatsover.

and the russian guy came 2nd bout 2 yrs ago so he's already been in the eurovision.

its just a joke now.

and itz all rigged as sir cliff should have won all those years ago but spain was bribing 9something like that) everyone so they won.

terry wogan says he's quitting eurovision now because itz become too political and all western european countries have no chance to win it.
Reply:its al about politics. lets face britains never going to win and they put the most money into it too. scrap eurovision maybe worldvision would be better cos i bet some americans would vote for uK
Reply:same as usual,crap.
Reply:I've watched it every year since I was tiny (back in the 50's) This is the first year I was so bored I turned it over. I'll not watch it again.

Whoever we got to sing for this country, they'd still come last because everybody hates the english.

shoes stock

Should UK pull out of the Eurovision Song Contest?

Its ridiculous that the eurovision song contest is now so political, and countries purely vote for neighbouring countries and do not vote in any connection with the song. The UK plug a lot of money into the competition so if they pulled out, the contest may not survive and we dont have to deal with losing every year because we are an island. Everyone in the competition speak and sing in English and is now becoming a joke

Should UK pull out of the Eurovision Song Contest?
I think we have already stayed longer than we should.

We clearly aren't welcome anymore. It might look pathetic if we pull out because it'll seem we're doing it we're not winning but at this point... very few people care. It's not that we aren't winning, it's the fact you can predict where the voting is coming from and less deserving acts gain points because of it! Everyone knows it's political voting and we pay for a majority of Eurovision even amoung the Big Four. There are lots of people who see it as a waste of time in this country, we can't win no matter how hard we try so it's wasting out time and money. I know it's the taking part that counts but there's no point in taking part if there is no chance you can win at all.

People watch the show to listen to Terry Wogan and laugh at the out-there acts that didn't deserve to be in the final of Europe's annual talentless-show. Wogan appears to be thinking of leaving - the BBC will lose a cut of the audience because who knows who they'll get as the commentator? They have to find one because no one will watch the presenters the country hosting it put up. Even in 1998 when we hosted Eurovision Wogan presented and commentated.

We aren't the only ones - the Germans have had enough too and they never really did brilliantly in Eurovision. Not like the UK or France. I wouldn't be surprised if France follow suit one day because they don't exactly light up the board anymore, do they?

If the other countries who vote for each other love it so much they won't object to paying for it themselves.
Reply:No we should not, it would be somewhat pathetic if we pull out simple because we are not winning.

We need to start voting for 'good' songs instead of the shite that the British Public vote for on Making Your Mind Up.

The voting procedures need to be changed to try and stop all the political voting. I think the UK and western European nations should demand it or tell the EBU they will start cutting back on the 10's of millions they contribute which actually allow for the event to take place.

The Song Contest is becoming a joke and needs to be addressed, if they do not then we should stay in but pull the funding and then see how quick the EBU change things.
Reply:YES Its distgusting they just dont like us I think they just vote for there neighbours and us at the of the score board Im watching it now we are at the bottom every year it pisses me off the talent of the other countries are so bad its hilarious
Reply:The only way we could ever win is if we let all the people from other countries come in, use our free health service, give them benefits and let them drain our economy.

Oh, we already do that?

Guess we can never win.
Reply:MASSIVE JOKE! And not funny anymore. You heard Terry Wogan - he's not doing it next year.

No point in watching now. The death of the UK Eurovision is nigh.
Reply:i dont think they should pull out, its a laugh,

its clearly all fixed and not down to the songs at all but its still a great show
Reply:yeah theres a lot of 'tactical' voting going on.

you should of seen last years entry. even we, the british public, dont take it seriously anymore
Reply:I hate eurovision so i dont care
Reply:They are the 2nd ones starting from the bottom..yes.
Reply:we're last now. I think we should put orselves out of our misery

Uk boycott of the Eurovision song contest?

Should the Uk boycott the Eurovision contest after yet another year of disappointing results (we came joint bottom). It seems less to do with musical talent and more to whom are your neighbouring countries;just seems a farce!

Uk boycott of the Eurovision song contest?
I have been in the Music Business over 20 years and I lived in Latvia for 3 years. The whole thing is a fix, With Latvia having 50% Russian Population, The Same in Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Not to mention the amount of eastern Europeans living in the UK and other parts of the world, no wonder wonder Russia won, The song was awful, I don't know how the Uk even gave the amount of points to Latvia, the song was also terrible. Not to mention in most of them the freak Show Dancers and costumes they had in the back ground.

The whole thing is a fix, I also think why are we letting countries like Russia in the compilation when they are not even in Europe and the fact they are sending home British ministers and not even working amicably with other European countries into making this a better world to live in.

One thing I realised when I was living in Latvia, they seem to have a real hate for english people and it appears all over the Baltic States and Russia, So poor Andy would never have got the vote he deserved...

Why should be put our young artist through this and waste their talent on such a joke of a show...
Reply:Seriously and theres more reason why we shouldnt join the EU..

It is a bit of joke I admit but at the same time its clear we're seen as the bad guys .

I neer watch it but as its fact , whether they like it or not , that the uk has strong musical heritage .

I mean not fan of current scene and do like some foregin artists but in general I would say the uk must have the monopoly as far music sales go in most categories - maybe their aware of that and jealous ?

I mean when was the last time you really heard of breakout artist from eastern europe really apart from the odd few one hit wonder like those Cheeky girls etc
Reply:What its to do with is: Is us mugs in the UK foot the bill for every country in the world when they have a crisis. We fight in wars to save countries that dont want us there. We are the first country to offer aid and aid-workers in any crisis. We home all the immigrants from all over Europe. Yet in the Eurovision all our continentel neighbours forget about this and cant even give us a point in a song contest. I bet there would be more people come forward to give us good points if it meant they got to live in this country.
Reply:I don't think that Terry Wogan wants to do any more, he sounded so disappointed at the end of this year's show. We are all disappointed at the eastern European cowards, what do they expect their neighbours to do..... start a war over a silly song contest ?
Reply:I think Terry Wogan was thinking along the same lines when he said Western Europe is going to have to decide if they want to continue in the competition.

I think its now time to give it up.
Reply:Its just not worth entering anymore. you just as well call it the 'new European' song contest. Poor Andy, I really liked that song too.
Reply:It should just be aboloished in general until people decide to actually judge on the music rather than political backgrounds.

It is a music contest right??
Reply:We pay for it, we might as well pull the plug and watch how Europe reacts.

Well, we're not going to win if we send a good entry, are we.
Reply:i really think we should give up as a bad job andy was ok this year i like him but the uk just do cr ap as always we need to give it up now and stop being shown up.
Reply:Since when has Eurovision had anything to do with musical talent?
Reply:Everyone hate us cos of the war. Did we even get 10 points?

I didnt even watch it.

Boycott it? Nobody would notice and i wouldnt care.
Reply:definitely. andy did not deserve that, the russian guy sucked and so does eurovision
Reply:what is eurovision?
Reply:Oh hells yeah. It's not even funny in a post-modern ironic way anymore. It's a waste of time, money and dignity.
Reply:Yes I'm going to start petition to boycott it
Reply:i think uk ad ireland should boycott it

its just so ridiculous

no one votes for us
Reply:its always been the case. did you know that actually most of Europe hate the Brits. which surprises because there seems to be quite a lot queueing up to come here!!!!!
Reply:you are so right its good young men like you like spain
Reply:Yes its a waste of time
Reply:Yeah!
Reply:no, he was crap at cricket. imagine what his singing`s like!!!
Reply:Definately. We didn't deserve to come last Andy was great.

Eurovision Song Contest - Why are the UK always losing?

I live in the UK and I am very disappointed that the UK are always losing in Eurovision Song Contest. I have talked to my step-mum about this and she said that the UK used to win sometimes when she was little. But why is there now a break-out of the UK always losing in the Eurovision Song Contest by coming last place?

Eurovision Song Contest - Why are the UK always losing?
I agree ! I liked andy's performance, even though it wasn't the best, I think the song had a catchy soul-funk tune and the performance with all the colors made me sure about that they at least would be a top ten- five.

Some say it's a political reason, because uk get into wars and stuff.

But hey, this is not this-country-is-the-best competition, it's ******* music.

ESC's not serious anymore actually, neigbouring countries votes for each other. Eastern eaurope wins on that scale.

I'm from sweden. We are also very suprised about our place, even though I didn't like our song that mutch, this is one of our worst ratings ever, and so was last year.

Russia won. It was okay.

Eastern countries wins novadays.

And they throw 12 on each other.

Why doesn't uk win s much as before? I also think it has to do with the language. Before contries were only allowed to sing in their own language. Therefore the english songs sounded better, because every country could understand them.

musically turkey was the best in my opinion.

Don't be disappointed about your country, UK's one of my favourite countries and you know music :)
Reply:The reason for this is that every contry votes politically rather than for who they actually like. Nowadays countries don't want to upset their neighbours by not voting for them. We used to win because countries actually voted for their favourites. It is only recently that UK have started to lose because of political voting :-( COME ON ANDY!

Maybe another question could be: "What year did the Eurovision cease to become a musical talent competition??!
Reply:Here's the winners from 1956. Click on the tiny tv at the end of the year, and you will bring up the video screen, click the play button and watch a bit of nostalgia!!

How is it that Israel is allowed to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest when they're not in Europe?

Is it Holocaust guilt? (Most European countries collaborated with the Nazis in the deportation of Jews to the death camps.)

How is it that Israel is allowed to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest when they're not in Europe?
because they are members of the EBU and btw sir kafir Cyprus is not just in the continent of Europe but it joined European union too.but turkey and Armenia you are right, they are not part of Europe
Reply:countries that border with Europe can become active members of EBU i.e. middle east and north Africa and next year eurovision will welcome and Azerbaijan. Report Abuse

Reply:continent of europe
Reply:I didn't know that Morocco was part of Europe...

.. or Armenia

.. or Cyprus

... or Turkey

You are right, it must be the zionist conspiracy. These pesky joooooos.
Reply:I didn`t know Serbia was...

Reply:LOL...whoa.......paranoia!

I think it is because of which countries are a part of the television region rather than any political reason!

Israel is in the Middle East yet they are entrants in the Eurovision Song Contest?

Really confused as I thought that the Eurovision was just European countries yet Israel in't in Europe but the Middle East.

Israel is in the Middle East yet they are entrants in the Eurovision Song Contest?
When the contest was first staged in the fifties not enough European countries showed an interest in it to make it viable. Half of Europe was behind the Iron Curtain and in the West the cost of broadcasting it put a lot of poorer countries off. So Israel was invited to make up the numbers and has stayed ever since.
Reply:ye their teams play in european competitions like the uefa cup and champions league. i always wondered why aswell.
Reply:because their horrible neighbours don't want them to play in their region. Besides, middle eastern music, football food and culture is crap. No wonder they would rather be part of Europe......
Reply:They are staying in the Middle East temporarily. They are Europeans
Reply:they must not love their natural neighbours very much......!

perhaps coz they re nt too friendly?
Reply:Hmmm, i see your point...... however i don't mind as i LOVE isreal!
Reply:i also always wondered why israel thinks its part of europe... yes, i live in israel...! lol
Reply:It's the countries that belong to the European broadcasting network (or something like that) that are allowed to participate. Doesn't make sense to me either, really!

Will Italy return to the Eurovision Song Contest and when?

Eurovision Song Contest is the song contest in which almost all countries take part in.

Of course it will win. Have You seen the rubbish that gets to number one in the Irish charts? Report Abuse

Reply:I never watch the Eurovision Song contest.

I find it a lame show with lame songs and participants.

So if that song which I have not heard is very boring, then it stands a good chance of winning the contest.

EDIT EDIT EDIT EDIT

" Andy F " -- precisely and I also believe the 'winner' has been decided even before the first song is sung. Not only a lame show but a lame fix too, LOL

If you are yahoo, jees i'm confused - to clarify Earth Angel has said diddly s.hit about anyone. I'm no Yahoo coward - i say it as it is face text or whatever so she better be on her toes!

Lovin any kind of turkey song!!! Sorry to interupt your Q x
Reply:He sure could be, what other contestant can say they have sung with. Bono, Bob Geldof and others. I won't watch it do never have and never will but some must due to the amount of people that phoned up over the last few years to vote for songs. So someone must watch the rot.
Reply:Eurovision is an outdated pointless concept that has degenerated into a policitally-driven method of voting for which country has managed to write the least awful song.
Reply:United Kingdom couldn't win that competition if we were the Only country in it..

The compettition has got nothing to do with talent or ability, it's all political voting now.
Reply:The Spanish entry is a complete, total and blatant piss.take.

What did you think of the Eurovision song Contest results?

Did you watch it?

What do you think of the results?

Who was your favourite?

Is the main singer from Serbia from grange hill?

I cheered when Ireland gave us 7 points,I ran round the room singing"where flying away!" when Malta gave us 12 points!thankyou malta!

I am sooooooo sorry Ireland ,we didn't give you any points at all,I voted for you.

p.s I am from Britain

What did you think of the Eurovision song Contest results?
As with every year, some decent songs, mostly a load of pap (two Ricki Martin clones in one show? And what happened the Irish lass's voice? She was terrible!) but mostly a prime example of international co-operation. The eastern European countries all voted for each other. The Western European nations voted more impartially, with the exception of Malta... but we needed the points so I don't really mind that. Malta's a great country anyway.

It was funny to watch nations that had until recently been kicking seven bells out of each other giving handing over the top points to each other. Bosnia and Serbia being the best example.
Reply:Music is for listening not for watching!!!!!

All of you - think about that when you next time hear MOLITVA!

Welcome to BELGRADE!!!
Reply:romania must be he winner, because im from romania but the winner are the best
Reply:I am happy for Serbia although very surprised. Maria is very good singer, and it seems she got a lot of votes from gay population, as the rumor says and they mentioned it last night on press conference. Serbia had great song some 2-3 years ago (Lane moje) but couldn't win because all ex Soviet republics voted for Ukraine (Ruslana). I watch Eurovision regularly but I never can predict who will win, I always fail with that. Anyway, song is good and she sings great (in Serbia, she is fighting for real music, and that people finally start to listen music again, instead of watching it - she is not handsome like 90% of other singers who sing bad but are popular anyway, and I like her because of that). Congrats, Maria!

PS Western European countries always say how they don't take that conest very seriously. They should send some better songs next time (look at Britain's song, for example. Britain can do much much better).
Reply:Husband took one daughter to see Spiderman as they refused to watch it.lol

My other daughter and I watched it with chocolate, wine and dips.

We thought that the songs this year were better than other years and my fav was Latvia the sort of LDiva type of singers. Daughter liked Sweden and the winner .

Well I thought the lead singer was from well not going to say but did not know if it was a he or a she or a bit of both.

Our song typical as to votes and where it come but lets face it our song was full of cheese and almost the worst there.
Reply:achtung'einz-zwie-drie'Groupen-
Reply:I couldn't believe how Britain, the birth place of so many great bands, chose that one for Eurovision.

The results were crap. The clique voting has become unsupportable. I think I'm going to watch the songs, but not the voting next year.

I am not a Kenan Dogulu fan, but I tought his was the best performance. Thank you Britain, for the points!
Reply:the scoring was a disgrace and always will be until they work out a better scoring system, but i do agree with the winner as i thought it was the best song of a bad bunch, and what about us(ireland) giving lithuania 12 points guess who was doing the voting there, lithuanians!!!
Reply:Ohh, c`mon, apart from being the pits, it really is political. The UK had more chance of winning the Bin Laden friendship award.
Reply:Hmm :-)

Generally, most of the countries gave the big points to their neighbours.I'm from Turkey and I was very very happy when Britain gave us 12 pts; thanks Britain :-)

I didn't like Serbia's song and singer..My favourite was Moldova, other than my country..
Reply:PANTS!

and i am from the UK too

%26gt;^,,^%26lt;
Reply:I'm very disappointed :-( Ireland was almost the only entry that relied on music as the entry instead of ridiculous costumes, fireworks displays, silly dancing and torches built into your hand etc., and we come last!! I suppose Euro"vision" is a good name for it since it obviously has little do to with the actual song any more... yes she did need some cough medicine before going on stage lol, but it was a very good representative of Irish music. I quite liked that song [sigh]... well we won 7 times already so it's not the end of the world :-P I used to be Eurovisions biggest fan, but the last few years it's been disappointing! BTW, despite the silliness of the UK entry I did actually like it and it got my vote ;-) Thanks for your vote for Ireland!! Pity it didn't actually get through lol even 1 UK point would have been nice hehe :-P
Reply:It was as awful this year as usual. Voting is political and nothing to do with the songs.
Reply:Yep another round of political voting and Terry Wogan giggling at it all again, maybe we should have stayed with the gaffe he made and put in a UK entry that had half a chance.
Reply:I am from Serbia and we won!!!! You are all welcome to serbia next year!
Reply:as usual it was a fix
Reply:I bet everyone thinks we are just sore losers. But in fact, eurovision is political.

I think politics and religion have alot to do with the problems that are in this world at the moment.

So its not surprising that even the good thing that unites all the EU once a year is now tainted with politics. Its a shame.
Reply:I didn't see it as I was at work so can't comment on the winner (or the voting) but I'm surprised that we got ANY votes...that song was dreadful. We have so many excellent singers, musicians %26amp; bands in this country and that's the best we can find???! If we had to qualify each year, we'd rarely get in to the final at all now.

Anyway, you could always go to Serbia next year - you don't have to wait for the UK to win (you could be dead before that happens, judging by our recent entry choices). I went to Athens last year and had a fantastic evening - helped by the fact that I like rock %26amp; guitar bands, so I was rooting for Lordi anyway (Daz was just too awful for words), but only entries were great. The downside is that you don't get Terry Wogan's commentary. My friend and I had planned to go to Helsinki but the tickets sold out so quickly!

The glitz, the camaraderie and the political voting is all part of the fun....and FYI, there is a large gay contingent that go each year and they vote based on which country they'd like to visit next...and it needs to be somewhere that is likely to be warm in May - they were NOT impressed, last year, at the idea of going to Finland.
Reply:How come if an eastern european state votes for another it's political yet when Ireland votes for us it's good taste?! There are politics involved, but culture also, folk are more likely to votefor the music that is familiar to them so countried with similar cultural backgrounds are more likely to vote for each others music.
Reply:All a con as usual, but our entry {britain] ggot all the votes it deserved and perhaps a few more.
Reply:I did not watch it, what a waste of time it is, way too old fashioned for this day and age.

No wonder our song got nil points.... it was awful, surely we can come up with something better than that
Reply:its political it will start the 3rd world war
Reply:Sorry didn't watch it.
Reply:well u put the british name 2 shame YOU YOU YOU stupid person
Reply:lolz.. songs were pretty funny (esp.) ukraine..

i wanted either russia, maldova, fyr macedonia to win but yeh serbia was ok.

i felt so sorry for ireland..they came last and the uk didnt even vote for them... f****ing brits!! jks jks!!

i think the uk should have sent either leona lewis or shane ward... i checked out all the profile for the singers in those other countries and they were all very famous and professionals...

cant believe uk made a mistake by putting "scooch" in...who are they anyways??

as for ireland (where i live) what were u thinking putting "dervish" in?? omg!!! they were dreadful!!! to be honest...

also i think that those votes were given bcuz of political reasons and NOT the songs!! they shouldnt do that..its not fair! probably bcuz they're afraid they're gonna get a world war 3 if they didnt vote for the country.... e.g. russia and gorgia.!!
Reply:I watched the show and I didn't like Serbia's song at all, as well as the singer.

Turkey was my favorite and Greece was also a good one.

Eurovision Song Contest -voluntary work?

The Eurovision Song Contest is held in Finland next year. I've been thinking of volunteering to work there but I don't know what the volunteers can actually do there.. The website of the ESC doesn't really help either.. Any ideas?
